Clayton was born in Madison County on October 20, 1933, the youngest of eight children, to William and Mary Delia Marona. After attending Riverton School, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his stint in the service, Clayton spent most of his career working for Chrysler, first in the military division in Italy and then in the automotive division in Huntsville, Alabama.
Clayton met his wife, Barbara Ann Nayman, in 1957 and they married on February 20, 1958 surrounded by friends and family. They went on to have three beloved children, Jeff, Scott, and Lori. Clayton was a wonderful father to his own children and was loved by many other young people who he coached on numerous youth baseball and basketball teams. For several years he was also the play-by-play announcer for the Buckhorn High School football team. In 1994, Clayton retired and then spent his time gardening, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Delia Marona, his siblings Eddie Marona, Charles Marona (Dorothy), Katie Marona Guerin (Howard), Milton Marona (Jean), Homer (Olga Belle), Tom Marona (Helen), and Roy Marona (Joyce), and his granddaughter, Carlie Grace Jenkins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Marona, children Jeff Marona (Lee Ann), Scott Marona (Connie), Lori Marona Jenkins (Joe), grandchildren Philip Marona, Anna Marona (Todd), Nathan Marona, Amy Marona, Chase Marona (Jessica), Rachel Jenkins, and Daniel Jenkins, and great grandchildren Lily Marona, Bo Marona, and Gunnar Marona, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday June 30, 2023 at Valhalla Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm. Graveside Services will follow at 1:00 pm at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
