Beverly grew up in Cokedale, Colorado with her parents. She was an only child, but had many cousins that she called her brothers and sisters.
Beverly and her parents moved to Amarillo, Texas when she was 11 years old. She graduated in 1954 from St. Marys Catholic Academy and then attended Amarillo College as well as Draughon’s Business College. After her graduation she worked as a secretary at the Amarillo Air Force Base, where she caught the eye of Marvin Drake who would become her lifetime love. The two married in 1956. Their first child Victor, was born in 1967 followed by second child, Donna in 1970. In 1993 she was blessed by the arrival of a grandson, Caden. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Beverly was heavily involved at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amarillo where she volunteered in the cafeteria serving lunches to the children. She was involved with her mother Sara as active members of St. Rita’s Circle, providing volunteer services to St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Amarillo, Texas. One of her biggest roles came in 1980 when she hosted, and assisted in the care of the Pilgrim Virgin of Fatima statue for daily prayer and devotion for a week at a time. She then made a lifetime commitment to praying the rosary everyday without fail.
When her husband Marvin Drake retired from the Amarillo Fire Department, they moved to Huntsville, Alabama. The two enjoyed traveling to many places together. She kept herself busy with her knitting and reading books. She was very witty, quick with good comebacks and made many laugh and smile until the very end.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband Marvin Drake, son Victor Drake, daughter Donna Montelongo, son in law Rick Montelongo and grandson Caden Carnes.
