Maxine L. Smith, 90 of Warren and formerly of Huntington passed away at 6:30am on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Heritage Pointe. Maxine was a 1941 graduate of Roanoke High School where she was salutatorian. She was a homemaker had farmed with her husband for many years on their hog farm and also accompanied him on the piano while he played Rattle Bones. They played at the Indian House at the Forks of the Wabash for many years and at several local nursing homes. She was well known for her chocolate chip cookies. She was a member of the Northview Church of Christ.
Maxine was born on September 6, 1923 in Huntington County, a daughter of Clarence A. and Tessie A. (Landrum) Dolby.
She was united in marriage to Glen W. Smith on March 14, 1942 in Andrews, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2000.
Survivors include a son: Marvin G. (Nancy) Smith of Huntington; two daughters: Sharon (Don) Bole of Hartford City; Kathy (James) Close of North Webster; a sister: Evelyn (Roland) Wehr of Marion; six grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Dolby, Richard Dolby and a great granddaughter: Riley Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11:00am at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Gerald O. Moreland officiating.
Interment will take place at the Markle Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made out to Woodburn Children’s Home in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
