Susy Mathew

Susy Mathew was born on February 14, 1943, in Karthikappally, Kerala, to the late P.G Thomas and Mariam Thomas, Padanilathu house. She is the fourth oldest of 7 children. Her siblings are George Thomas (late), Mary Thomas (late), John Thomas (late), Saramma George, Joseph Thomas (late), and Abraham Thomas.

After marrying the late Mr. M.D Mathew, Manakkattu House, Evoor South, in 1969, she was a lifelong member of Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, Ramapuram, Kerala. She was survived by two sons and three daughters: Laya George, Leena Shaji, Daniel Mathew (Lenin), Lisa Jibi, and Lincoln Thomas Mathew. Her in-laws are George Philip, Shaji Koruthu Sonia Daniel, Jibi Joseph, and Preethi Mathew. Susy was blessed with 11 grandchildren.

She became a schoolteacher at the age of 19 in Kerala and continued her long teaching profession for 36 years. She was lovingly acknowledged by "Susy Sir" among her student population. Her communication skills and thoughtfulness were unremarkable. She was admired as an outstanding teacher by her peers and students. She was a devoted mother, who was prayerful and sincere in her nature. Susy arrived in the United States in 1998 and was a member of Bethel Mar Thoma Church, Philadelphia.

In 2019, Susy suffered a stroke that led her to be a right-sided hemiplegic patient. She lost her speech during this incident and became a Chapel Manor Nursing home resident in Philadelphia. God provided Susy, miraculously, for the past four years in his mercy and caring ways. She entered into eternal peace on September 26, 2023, at the age of 80. Though her absence deeply saddens our hearts, we know she led a fulfilling life, surrounded by her devoted family and friends. She was indeed a light full of positivity. Though she is gone, she will never be forgotten. Her memories will always be cherished, and she will always live within our hearts.

A visitation for Susy will be held Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lamb Funeral Home Inc., 101 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006. A funeral service will occur Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 101 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006. A visitation will occur Monday, October 2, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, 101 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006. A funeral service will occur Monday, October 2, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM, 101 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006. An interment will occur Monday, October 2, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006.
