Maria Gonzalez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Gonzalez, 91, on August 14 2024. Maria was a woman of extraordinary strength, resilience, and boundless energy. Born in General Terán, Nuevo León, Mexico, she was one of nine siblings. On September 23, 1961, she married Tomas Gonzalez, just two years after their paths first crossed. Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising four sons: Tomas, Javier, Ricardo, and Arturo. In 1978, Maria moved to Houston, Texas, where she built a life rich in love, family, and community. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tomas Gonzalez, and is survived by her sons and their wives: Tomas and Evaleen Gonzalez, Javier and Maricela Gonzalez, Ricardo Gonzalez, and Arturo Gonzalez. Maria leaves behind a lasting legacy of love through her 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.

Maria was always on the go, whether strolling through the neighborhood, preparing a delicious meal, or sweeping the floor—her favorite pastime. Her adventurous spirit never allowed her to slow down, and her steady steps were a testament to her determination and love for life.

A true social butterfly, Maria effortlessly formed connections wherever she went. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in others drew people to her, and she cherished the relationships she built throughout her life. Her home was a haven for her grandchildren, where they gathered to create treasured memories. To them, she was lovingly known as Wela.

As we mourn her loss, we find comfort in the words of Scripture: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4

Rest in peace, dear Maria. You will be deeply missed, but your spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

A visitation for Maria will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cem, 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. A celebration of life will occur Friday, August 30, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. A committal service will occur Friday, August 30, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 21723 Aldine Westfield Rd, Humble, TX 77338.
