Larry was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on June 5, 1958. On August 30, 1985, Larry married the love of his life, Jacqueline Hines, she survives. Also surviving are his children; DeJohn Scott (Christa Faul), Anthony Roberts (Shannon Roberts), Alex Roberts (Angela Roberts), Quincy Thomas, Dominique Thomas (Taylor Brimmer), Emory Thomas and Larry (Lala) Thomas. His sister Donna Pepper and his grandchildren Anthony Roberts, Denham Roberts, London Roberts, Alexa Roberts and Skye Brimmer also survive him.
Larry attended high school at Southern University Laboratory School. He attended Texas Southern University, played in the Ocean of Soul Marching Band and served as Student Government President. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Southern University and earned his Master’s degree in Counseling at Prairie View A & M. Larry was a counselor at Bridgeway Youth Shelter in Conroe, Texas. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Larry dedicated his life to the youth he counseled at Bridgeway Youth Shelter. He cared so much about youth from his professional life and his personal life. On any given afternoon, you could find Larry playing basketball with his sons, their friends and the neighbor kids. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He was an outdoorsman and loved his dogs. Larry never met a stranger. He had a bigger than life personality and loved to dance, talk to everyone and make jokes. Larry is known for his style and his swagger. He was one of a kind.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 21723 Aldine Westfield Rd, Humble. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the funeral home, Deacon Ray Oden will officiate. An Omega Ceremony will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the funeral service by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
