Sarah Helen Mayhew, age 91, passed away on May 23, 2018, in Hughson, California with her family at her side. She was born on January 4, 1927. Sarah was a graduate of Modesto High School and attended Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee. She earned French teaching credentials as well as Accelerated Christian Education certification. She spoke French, English and Koulango. Sarah married Jerome Archie Mayhew on December 4, 1944. She was a missionary to Ivory Coast, West Africa, a teacher and pastor’s wife alongside her husband for forty years. Sarah established a Christian reading youth outreach center in Tanda, Ivory Coast. This led to the Baptist Institute there today. Sarah and Archie also established a number of new churches in remote and primitive areas that still exist today. She is pre-deceased by husband Jerome Archie Mayhew and her son Dr. Larry Mayhew. She is survived by children Jerry Mayhew and his wife Donna, Merry Mayhew, Sheryl Mayhew Alvernaz and her husband Tony, and daughter-in-law and friend Rebecca Luther Mayhew. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Christopher Mayhew, Jefferey Fulks, Darrell Fulks, Kenny Rorabaugh, and Alicia Rorabaugh, as well as five great grandchildren. Services will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park on June 9, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., in Riverside Chapel. Reverend Tim Rolen officiating
Memorial contributions in Sarah’s honor can be made to support the following ministry in the Ivory Coast, West Africa: Nionan Village Project Ivory Coast, West Africa This project provides food and shelter for homeless children and elementary education. Children with a desire to pursue higher education are referred to the Tanda Institute where Sarah first established the youth ministry outreach program.
