Peter James Kennedy Funtila, age 24, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016 in Manteca, CA. He was born November 12, 1992 at Dameron Hospital in Stockton, CA. He attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School from K-8 and graduated from Fred C. Beyer High School in 2011. He received his Associate of Science degree in clinical and administrative medical assistant this June 2016 and was planning to take the CA certifying board examination this December 17th. Peter worked briefly at a local dermatology and skin cancer clinic.
Peter was a trumpet player throughout 4 years of high school with the Western Bands Association award-winning Beyer Marching Band and Color Guard. He earned the Beyer Marching Band and Color Guard ‘s Gary P. Gilroy Achievement Award for musical excellence in 2011. He played trumpet also with the Concord Blue Devils B Corps winning World Drum Corps International Open-Class Championships in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2014 and placing 2nd place at the DCI Open- Class championship in 2012.
Peter took all of his personal and moral obligations seriously. He was a strong defender of his faith and was a member Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and CFC-FFL Youth for Christ.
He is survived by his parents Melchor Funtila and Barbara Kennedy-Funtila, MD; his siblings Andrea and Thomas, his paternal grandmother Estela Costello, and aunts, uncles, and several cousins.
Viewing will be held on Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4, 2016, from 4 to 8pm at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA. The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, December 5, 2016 at 10am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 505 West Granger Ave, Modesto, CA at 10am. Reception immediately follows at the old hall. The following day, December 6, 2016, Peter will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA at 10 am.
