Mary Ann was born to Lawrence W. and Relinda M. (Baca) Fonseca of Decoto, CA in 1937. She married Gilbert J. Abeyta and had four children: Susan, Gilbert, Sandra, and Valerie. They divorced after 13 years, and she later married Manuel M. Cadena. They lived in San Jose for a decade or more then moved to Modesto where they began executing their retirement plans of becoming landlords of rental property. They worked successfully together improving properties and enjoyed the fruit of their labors.
Mary Ann was a homemaker, cashier, waitress, data entry clerk, bus monitor, and house painter. Of these successes, Mother said her brightest achievement was raising her four children. Mary Ann and Manuel traveled the world together with family and friends. A highlight of her life was winning her 2010 “Hemi-engine” Dodge Charger at a casino.
Her survivors are Susan L. (Abeyta) and Jon King of Meridian, ID; Gilbert J. Abeyta, II of Modesto, CA; Sandra L. (Abeyta) and Richard Richardson of Yuba City, CA; and Valerie (Abeyta) Sandoval of Modesto, CA. She has a numerous posterity which includes 27 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel (1934—2016), her parents and brother, Larry; and grandsons Michael Sandoval and Brian Abeyta.
Family and friends are invited to her viewing at Lakewood Funeral Home in Hughson, CA Monday, December 6, 2021 at 9 AM. A chapel service will follow at 10 AM.
