On Tuesday January 11, 2022, Heaven gained a warrior. Derek Joseph Selby, known by those close to him as “Reka” due his tornado like personality that swept through the room and captivated anyone, who was in it. Derek was always everyone’s first call when they needed anything. Derek always put others before himself, and he was a fierce protector of the ones he loved. He was the ultimate son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, friend and a one-of-a-kind father with a love for his daughters that could light the world on fire. If he loved you, you knew it! His compassion for his family, friends, club, and life in general was untouchable and inspirational.
Derek Joseph Selby was born on September 27, 1983, to Mark and Lisa Selby.
Derek was a member of the Millwrights local 102. He was also an active Motorcycle enthusiast. He had the most original personality like no other. Derek’s ability to bring laughter to this world was one of his greatest gifts. His comedy and impersonating skills were pure gold. If you were lucky enough to be in the room when he was on a roll, you were sure to be laughing. His most passionate hobbies were fishing, motorcycles and music. His hobbies weren’t just about him. He was a huge supporter of his close friends and their hobbies, especially the ones he enjoyed.
Most importantly for Derek were his daughters. Makelle and Brielle were his world. His heart was and always will be theirs. Derek loved being surrounded by family and friends. As a young kid he would call his friends at 7 a.m. every Saturday to plan the day. Making sure he wasn’t missing out on any fun. Not only will Derek be truly missed, but he will be irreplaceable. Derek was a once in a generation talent. You were lucky if you knew him, and you were blessed if you were close to him.
Derek is survived by his spouse Janice Selby. His daughters Makelle and Brielle Selby, his parents Mark and Lisa Selby, his sisters Melissa Carrasco and Marina Selby and his nieces and nephews.
Derek is preceded in death by his grandfather John Stine, his uncle Michael Selby and his grandfather Charles Selby.
Funeral service for Derek will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 12:00pm at Lakewood Funeral Home - Riverside chapel 900 Santa Fe Ave Hughson, CA.
Burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
