Gertrude Yvonne Miller was born Gertrude Yvonne Kellicut in Gary, South Dakota on July 5, 1931, turning 90 this year, until her passing into heaven on April 26, 2021. She was the only child of George and Olive Kellicut and cousin to many with lasting friendships throughout the years. She met her would-be husband, Virgil Dale Miller, while in college at Midwestern University. She was a band member playing the clarinet on a music scholarship and he, the school photographer. After Dale was crowned King of Midwestern, Yvonne followed the next year as Queen.
In 1952, Dale and Yvonne married and moved to Austin, Texas, so Dale could continue his education at the University of Texas. Yvonne was a lab technician when they moved to Houston. She decided to become a homemaker after adopting three children, Todd, Jodi, and Robyn. Her children can attest that she rarely lost her temper, and was always supportive, encouraging, wise, and kind. Yvonne sacrificed for her family; never selfish for her own gains, but and always giving to her family and friends.
Yvonne will be remembered for her 50-plus years of service to the Methodist church, her advocacy of theosophical prayer, and her dedication to the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church choir. Never afraid to talk about Jesus and always determined that her children went to church, she was open to everyone about the Holy Spirit and the healings and miracles of Jesus Christ in today’s times.
Yvonne enjoyed the times after Dale’s retirement, traveling in their RV across all states, and loved watching birds whether from her living room window or from the window of her RV.
Yvonne’s parents and husband preceded her in death, and she is survived by her three children and their families: Todd Miller and wife Jennifer, Jodi Hockinson and husband Craig, and Robyn Miller; grandchildren Stormy Chalmers and husband Mark, Jake Miller, Victoria Kissinger and husband Joey, Caleb Miller and Padyn Miller, Patrick Schneiter and Jennifer Schneiter; great grandchildren Gabby and Victor Chalmers.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Friday, April 30 at the Waltrip Funeral Directors located at 1415 Campbell Rd. Houston, Texas 77055 and will open for family at 5pm. Services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday May 1, at Spring Branch Presbyterian Church located at 1215 Campbell Rd. Houston, Texas 77055.
