Yolanda Martinez Galvan, affectionately known as "Nana" to most, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, at the age of 79. Born in Houston, Texas, on November 30, 1945, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
Yolanda dedicated many years of her life to the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company before retiring and spending time working in the cafeteria at Jersey Village High School. It was her devotion to family and her vibrant personality that made her truly unforgettable. Nana’s love for life was evident in her passions, which included enjoying a cold beer while watching her beloved Houston Oilers, now Houston Texans football teams—always with a special disdain for the Cowboys. She also loved dancing to Tejano music and the oldies, where her joyful spirit shone brightly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Josephina and Blas Martinez, her sister Rosie, her son Paul Galvan Jr., and her beloved pets Capone and Maya, Yolanda’s legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to live on through her family.
She is survived by her children, Regina Galvan Lucio and Thomas Galvan, her grandchildren Justin Galvan-Lucio and wife, Haley, Toni Galvan and wife, Stephane, Kasi Galvan-Lucio, Tayler Oubre and husband, Renn, Tommy Galvan and wife, Allanay, and her great-grandchildren Jase, Sadie, and Avery. Additionally, Nana eagerly awaited the arrival of future great-grandchildren, Blaine Ozzell Oubre and Thomas Ozzell Galvan Jr., who will carry on her spirit and memory.
A memorial service to celebrate Nana's life will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 23rd. The family invites friends and loved ones to join in remembering her from 4pm to 8pm with stories, warmth, and love as she has left an indelible mark on all of us.
Nana’s light, laughter, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed, but she will forever remain in our hearts and our minds anytime we enjoy a cold beer!
