Willis Earl Hutcheson was born in Red Level, Alabama on February 25, 1929 to Early Hutcheson and Alma Willis Hutcheson. He grew up on the family farm and attended local schools until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1948. While in the Air Force, Bill was a radio operator for the 10th Air Rescue Squadron in Alaska. Prior to his discharge while he was stationed at Ellington Air Force Base he met Doris Thompson. Bill and Doris married on November 21, 1952. They had two daughters, Toni and Glenda.
Bill attended the University of Houston and received technical degree in television repair. He worked as a longshoreman, welder and boilermaker until he started his own seagoing ship repair business in 1977. He enjoyed bass fishing and spending time at the lake.
Bill is survived by his daughters Toni (Dr. Donald Moore) of Fruita, CO; Glenda Smith (Mark Smith) of Pasadena, TX. Grandchildren Lindsay Gillespie (Brandon) of Aurora, CO; Laura Zortman, Grand Junction, CO; Zachary Zortman, Las Vegas, NV; Savannah Moore, Portales, NM; Leslie Harvey, Pasadena, TX; Daniel Moore, Fruita, CO and two great granddaughters Ava Jade Gillespie and Evelyn Reese Gillespie of Aurora, CO. Step-Grandaughters, Jerri Smith and Krissy Smith of Columbia, South Carolina, Meghan Moore of Hagerstown, MD and Sarah Moore of Tucson, AZ. Bill is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert R. Thompson (Norma) Lago Vista, TX ; Kenneth Manning of Texarkana, TX and Elmer Booth, Charlotte, TX along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy and wife, Doris.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Main Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
