William Charles Wood, known by his family and friends as Bill, was born in Auburn, New York on December 25, 1935, passed away on March 21, 2024, at the age of 88. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Frances Michelle Wood, son Kenneth “Kenny” William Wood, and daughter Charlotte Ann Cooper. He is survived by his children Daniel “Danny” Charles Wood, Deborah Wood, Donald “Donny” Frederick Wood, and Nancy Ruth Wood; his grandchildren Heather Stanley, Bobby Wood, Jonathan “J.D.” Wood, Andrew Dycus, Cassandra Wood, Christina “Crissie” Wood, Joey Janson, Cherish Wood, and Christena “Nikki” Wood; and his great-grandchildren Kennedy Wood, Violet Stanley, Everly Wood, Sutton Wood, Brooklynn Wood, and Anaiah Dycus. He was also so excited to have his first great-grandson on the way to carry on the family name. He is also survived by his brother David Mix and sister Althea Bryan.
At eighteen, Bill joined the First battalion, Tenth Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He served from February 1953 to January 1961. He proudly wore his military cap every day.
Bill was very adventurous and loved to be on the move. He loved to travel in all manners. He could drive anything. Bill was a pilot, he used to drive a boat to work in a ship yard, and he drove semi-trucks across the country for years. His favorite, though, was motorcycles. Bill would often drive his motorcycle from Texas to New York after he retired, collecting matchbooks from everywhere he stopped. Bill could also fix anything, spending hours in his garage and lovingly passing those skills to his children. He also had a passion for woodworking. His home was always littered with beautiful crafted wooden toys for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill was an amazing person and will be dearly missed.
