William Pitts Jr.

Rev. William Pitts, Jr. was born in Homer, Louisiana on December 12, 1941 to William and Odessa Hall Pitts. He was the eldest of four siblings. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church located in Homer, Louisiana.

He attended Homer‐Mayfield High School. The family relocated to Houston, Texas. He attended Phyllis Wheatley High School, where he completed his senior year and played in the band. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. He completed basic training and was then sent to Germany, where he served his country.

He returned to Houston and retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad and Continental Airlines. He was called to Pastor at Bryant Missionary Baptist Church, upon receiving his Theological Degree, he Pastored Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, both were located in Montgomery, Alabama. 1 Timothy 5:17, “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.”

As his health declined, he still maintained his determination to spread the word of God. He continued to serve as a consultant to many communities, churches and family members who sought out his guidance and outstanding leadership.

He was affectionately known as “Pa Pa Pitts.” He was also a “Dallas Cowboys, fan.”

Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Pitts, parents, William Pitts Sr. and Odessa Hall Pitts and sister Louise Bradley (June).

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved children, Sherita Dannielle Pitts, Ashlee D’anne Pitts and William Joseph Lee, grandchildren, his brother John Amos Pitts, two sisters, Evelyn Gray, Mattie Martin (Howard Sr.), Linda Lewis, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
