Wayne was born July 13, 1930 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was born to Chester and Dessa Lee Hibbs. He had three siblings, Wilma, Freddy and Walt. They moved around a lot when he was a child, but they settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When he was just 15 years of age, Wayne convinced his mother to change the date on his birth certificate so he could join the Marines! He was an expert marksman and an amphibious tank mechanic who served at the end of World War 2 and in the Korean War. He was at the famous Battle of the Incheon in Korea.
Unfortunately, Wayne’s father and brother Freddy died in a plane crash in 1950 and his mother died of cancer in her early 40’s a few short months later. Determined to make something of himself, he utilized the GI Bill and attended college at the University of Texas. Desiring to make his mark he entered the Oil Field industry where he found his true calling. He worked in Persia, Libya, Kuwait, Venezuela, and Mexico, and he traveled the world.
In 1965 he met Suzanne and her son, Donald. They married and first started out on an adventure in Libya then moved back to Houston and four years later had a daughter, Nicole. Wayne was a great father to both of his children. They had a long marriage of 57 years.
While casing his dreams in the oil business, the family moved to Tyler, back to Houston, Denmark, Louisiana and finally back to Houston again. In the early 1980’s he started his own oil field supply business, D-N Supply, named after his two children. People from all over called him to find oil field equipment. At one point he built a full scale drilling rig on site!
He was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers and the First Marine Division Association. He greatly enjoyed being a part of this group and served in various positions. Every year he would help raise lots of money during their Toys for Tots Golf tournament.
Wayne enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being silly. He had four grandchildren, Catherine, Ryan, Jenna, and Jack.
Wayne worked hard for his family. He could build or repair most anything. He truly enjoyed helping others. He was loving, kind, and a total goof ball! He was a great man that will be missed by many.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Dessa Lee Hibbs; his sister Wilma Walker; his brother Walter Hibbs; and his brother Freddy Hibbs. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his son Donald Brown; his daughter Nicole Dehn; his son-in-law Jerry Dehn, and his grandchildren Catherine Brown, Ryan Dehn, Jenna Dehn, and Jack Dehn.
