Viola Mae (Armer) Woodring, age 96, passed away on Monday, December, 9, 2024. Born in Waller, Texas on May 14, 1928 she grew up in the Waller, Texas area in her early life. During the early years as a child, Viola would help her family around the home along with farming activities such as picking cotton and tending to the farm animals. From a young age, Viola would attend church with her family, help with activities on the farm, play outside with friends and spend time with relatives in the area. Around the age of 9, her family moved into the Heights area of Houston and there, she graduated from Reagan High School (Heights High School). During that time, Viola worked for South Main State Bank in the Heights area of Houston. She later married Joseph Sidney Woodring Sr. and they resided in Pasadena, Texas for over 50 years. They raised two sons, Joseph Sidney “Sid” Woodring Jr. and Mark Duane Woodring. During these years the family attended Richey Street Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas. Viola was very active in her church as a long time member serving in the Teaching ministry along with many other activities of service including, Bible studies, Vacation Bible School, helping with meals and coordinating events for the church members. Viola was a true servant to God, her family and friends. She believed in prayer and was always praying for her family and friends daily along with reading the Bible very often. Viola was a truly generous person and always gave sacrificially to her family and those around her in need. Her personality was dutiful, energetic, faithful, generous, honest, joyful, loyal, practical, quirky, resourceful, respectful and traditional. Throughout all of her life, Viola enjoyed cooking, farming/gardening, reading, sewing and spending time with her family and close friends.

Her son Joseph Sidney “Sid” Woodring Jr. and his wife Johnnie Woodring, their son is Viola’s late grandson, Jeff Woodring. Viola survived by his wife Tracy Woodring and their children, Daisy Woodring, Dalton Woodring, Libby Woodring, and their Aunt Jodi Miller. Daughter and Viola’s granddaughter, Memori Gonzalez her husband Luis Gonzalez, children, Tommy Gonzalez, Junior Gonzalez, Brittani Evans and her husband TJ Evans and children, Brianne, Brinley, Camilla and Clark. Daughter and Viola’s granddaughter, Jennifer Schmidt, her daughter Kelsey Cotton and her husband Corey Cotton, children Kinsley and Kash. Son and Viola’s grandson Ron “Bubba” Whilley sons Cameron Whilley and Christian Whilley, daughter, Courtney Whilley, her companion, Adrian Cerda and their children, Jayce and Aiden. Her son Mark D. Woodring and former late wife and Viola’s late daughter-in-law, Pamela Woodring and their daughter and Viola’s granddaughter Jill Woodring.

A gathering for Viola will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A committal service will occur Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
