I can’t believe it has been a year Vickey.  It was only two years ago we were at General Conference laughing about this and that.  Just thinking of you and smiling at the way you made me smile.  

It doesn't seem like just one year.  Some days seem like it was yesterday when I opened Troy's email, others like it can't possibly be true.  Rev Vickey's legacy lives on in the lives of each of us...some who never got to meet her this side of Jordan.  Let us not grow weary, but continue to live for the justice she envisioned for all.

I remember Vickey from the early days of MCCR on Decatur. What a beautiful, soft, loving voice of care. I recognized this and witnessed in her ministry. 
Rev. Vickey remembered the loss of my mom this last April who also died of Covid-19.
I received a  card from Rev. Vickey  and a book on grief. I am also so grateful her words on grief are still available for others suffering.
  I enjoyed her smile and laugh, as others have mentioned. 
 God gained and angel and we gained her spirit forever more in RMCC and all the other ministries and groups she offered her love and dedication. 
 To Cassandra and her family, I am deeply sorry for your loss and will hold you in my heart, thoughts and prayers.

Vickey was Adrain’s “Best-groomsman” at our Holy Union, Aug. 8, 1998.  We can never forget her.  Her laugh was, indeed, infectious.  We continued to be blessed each time we saw her through the years  at MCC conferences.  We have loss more than a friend & colleague, but truly, part of who we are.  Our thoughts, tears, and prayers are with all who knew & loved her.  (713-859-1712)

You touched a lot of lives, including mine and Sheryl’s over the 25+ years of our friendship  The word “minister” truly applies to you. You made our wedding special and you were always there when we needed you. We love you deeply and we are going to miss you so much.  We will be there for Cassandra. 

My memories of Vickey were always seeing her smile and that unmistakable laugh.  She would just make everyone and everything seem so much better by simply being there.  She was indeed an angel on earth.  Rest in the arms of God my friend.  You will be missed!

Reverend Vickey was kind, always had a smile on her face and welcoming to all. Very intelligent and witty.  I met her at the weekly bible studies she was always happy to see everyone. She will be missed . Heaven has a new angel. 

I remember Rev. Vickey as a kind, compassionate and warm-hearted friend, and fellow traveler on the spiritual journey.  Her words inspired me over the years, and I will remember her presence  of peace and wisdom.  She was very supportive of the music ministry at Resurrection MCC, and we will miss her. Sadden by the pasting of Rev Gibbs, I only met her once at MccDc. I was a member of the gospel choir at the time.  Prayers for her family and all that knew and loved her. May she rest in power!

Rev. Vickey, thank you for lighting up a room with your smile. Your quiet presence was so powerful and felt by many in any space. Thank you for always having encouraging words for me over the years. Your confidence in me helped me to say YES to speak at General Conference. I remember us laughing about it on the phone. 

You will be missed. Until we meet again, rest well!!!!

My sincerest sympathies to all Rev. Vickey’s family.  A true light has been dimmed.  But her journey is not over!  May she continue to shine on in the hearts of all of us she touched; and may her soul continue to flow in the beauty and love in this life that surrounds all.

The devistating loss of Reverend Vickey is a sorrow like no other. I pray we are all consoled by the many special memories shared. May God comfort us all. Sweet Vickey. I'm just stunned and so deeply sad. It was my honor to introduce you to my church folk just a couple of Sundays ago. You offered a message that changed lives; mine included. 

I am going to miss our tri-annual drink "date" to reconnect and decompress. You have been my touchstone friend in this journey of ministry.

I met Reverend Vickey when she came to Los Angeles for our church anniversary. Reverend Vickey was incredibly special shining a beautiful, loving spirit. I will never forget Reverend Vickey and she will be greatly missed. My heart is breaking along with yours during this time. May God give you all strength and consolation during this difficult time. Rev was a person indescribable. She performed my wedding in oct.  Was family to any and every soul that she came across, saw God in each and everyone of us.  I have no words to the pain I feel but I know she would not want us to dwell in this place of sorrow. For now we just pray for her family and the church and the world at large for this bright soul we have lost. 

I moved to Houston in 1995. I was young and alone. Vicky was one of the first people I met at Resurrection and one of the people who held my hand when I was admitted to the hospital a few weeks after I arrived in Houston. That was when she was just Vicky. I knew her spirit then and I know her spirit now. Thank you for being there Vicky. 

Rev. Vickey had such a gentle spirit & was a very dear & much loved colleague & friend. I had the privilege of working with Vickey for many years & will miss her quiet assurance & warm smile. She was so kind & always willing to help others. My prayers are with her family at this very sad time . 

I am so sorry to hear about Rev. Vicki's passing. Her smile and spirit will be missed. My heart and prayers go out to her family and  congregation. 

I remember meeting Vicky when we were in the  Decatur street location.  Always had a smile and an uplifting word. She was always there for me and "got" me. She took the time to listen and share her godly wisdom. She always had a hug and a prayer. She was my "I need help and prayer" person. She was my heroine through many difficult times. She cried, laughed, and hugged me through them no matter what. Our church and now heaven are truly blessed by her and her smile that will shine on us all. A true great and faithful servant who's passion for God stood firmly in all she fought for. I will miss you Rev. Rest in power my friend. 

I am so saddened by the loss of Rev. Vickey Gibbs. This brave champion of humanity was the embodiment of divine, unconditional love. She saw the essence of others and encouraged the exploration of that essence. Vickey companioned those who could not stand on their own. Generous of Spirit, fullness of heart, and strength of mind, are only a few of the dimensions of Rev. Gibbs that made her an extraordinary Minister of the Gospel. I will miss you, my friend.

Cassandra and family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Vickey.  Her life  was a bright light and testimony of a wonderfully kind, generous, and loving person, a true follower of Jesus. Her deep compassion, smile and laughter are treasures I will miss. I have no words to describe what Rev. Vicky meant to me.  We didn't see each often, but she always had a smile & a kind word.  My heart goes  out to Cassandra & their family. She was a beautiful soul and her legacy of grace, kindness, persistence, strength, courage, faithful witness for love and justice will reverberate forever. This is so sudden and difficult to take in.  But I know this: that the God Rev Vickey taught about, preached on, and prayed to is the God she rests with tonight.  Well done, good and faithful Steward.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your family member, Vickey. I may have met her once while she visited Rev. Rob Fleming here in Las Vegas. I know first hand the sorrow you and your family must feel at this time, as my husband also passed from the virus in March. Condolences to the Gibbs and Oneal Families for the lost of Vickey. I grew up with the family in Beaumont. All are beautiful people. Vickey will be missed by all who new her. 

Anita and I are saddened and shocked by this news of the loss of our sister.  She was such a beautiful spirit and her love for our Savior was so heartfelt.  She will be missed by her church family and friends.  Rest peacefully my sister in the loving arms of our Lord.

I met Vickey through Resurrection MCC many, many, years ago. I started attending in the mid 1990’s when I was slowly coming to terms with my sexuality.  I’m not exactly sure when I met her but Vickey was immediately so accepting and radiated God’s Love and the love she had for her partner.  What a smile and soft speaking talker.  To see her blossom in her years affiliated with Resurrection was a joy to see.  I loved driving down from Kingwood to worship with her, & even to be studying with her during Mel White’s  “Soul Force”, weekend in July 1999 was unforgettable.  She presented Principle 5. I was a greeter with Vickey as well.
Although I’ve been gone for many years physically from RMCC, I keep up through the news letters and have occasionally gone back and have been so Blessed by Reverand Vickey’s sermons and presence!  How sad for all of us that Jesus wanted her now.  Our loss.  Thank you God, for letting me have been exposed to Rev Vickey’s light.  She blessed all she came in contact with.

It is said that tears are prayers.  Well I’ve been praying all day.  Rev VIckey was one of a kind:  compassionate, funny, thoughtful, determined and fearless.  I will miss her presence, her leadership, our lunches and chats.  I’m happy you are resting in the arms of Creator and watching over us, your flock.

Vickey was my "please pray with me" person and my favorite communion server because she always knew precisely, intuitively what to say--always entirely personal and never boilerplate.  Her brilliant brain absorbed so much that she somehow became able to interpret and disseminate in the most digestible and useful ways.  It amazed and delighted me.  I could walk into her presence and she could know simply by seeing me whether something was very wrong or very right.  What a gift, what a blessing, what a loss.  Cassandra, Ariel, Cara, and little Xavier:  I offer my deepest prayers and love.

Rev: You were a light ... a shining light ... in our darkest moments. You embodied grace and love. In you ... we saw God. Rest in the arms of our Lord. You fought a good fight ... May your sweet and gentle soul Rest In Peace

I met Vickey when I moved to Houston in 1996.  She worked in the church (Resurrection MCC ) office on Decatur.  She was a shining light then, friendly, smiling, caring.  I’ve watched her grow, she worked for the Fellowship for years  and everyone became aware of her many talents.  I learned of her many passions when she became associate pastor of our church.  I had the pleasure of working under her this past year.  She is an angel and I will always remember her kindness, fairness, and love for all.  Words cannot express my sorrow.  Rest In Peace.  God bless 

What a Beautiful woman. Since the day I met her we were instant friends. We just fell in together as if we'd known each other since the beginning of time. I treasured her friendship and her. Her laughter her smile lit up the room everywhere she went. She was a gift from God to everyone she met. She made the world a better place to be in.  I am proud to say I knew her and called her my Cousin.  RIP and rise in Glory.

I had the pleasure of being on the Conference Core Team with Vickey.  She just brought an amazing sense of spirit and light to the team.  Some people in life bring something special to the time you share - Vickey was one of those people.  Many a moment of laughter was had over the Conference and I shall always remember that time.  Thank you for sharing a piece of yourself with me; I just know there are little pieces of you shared all over!!  Rest in peace Vickey.   

You have fought the good fight, You have finished the race, You have kept the faith.  Now rest my good friend.  You are missed so very much already and I will definitely miss our lunches.  Thank you for being a part of this journey with me.  Love & Light Always.
