Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 2, 1944, Tony was adopted into a loving family with parents Ruby and Woodrow Thayer and sister, Patricia Thayer. He graduated from Sutton High School in West Virginia. In 1966, Tony welcomed his first daughter, Cindy Coontz. After settling down in Houston, TX, he began a longstanding career in the pest control industry and established Amrid Pest Control. In 1987, Tony married the love of his life, Divina “Vina” Thayer and in 1991, they welcomed their daughter, Ashley Stepp.
Tony was very fond of the outdoors and enjoyed many hobbies such as trail riding, mudding, traveling in his RV, spending time with his dog, Cash and going to gun shows with his buddy, Floyd. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Tony was also actively involved in various community and industry organizations, including Sokol Houston and the Greater Houston Pest Control Association.
He lived his life to the fullest and demonstrated a strong work ethic. He willingly shared his knowledge and experiences for the benefit of others. He touched many lives; family, friends, neighbors, clients and his office staff. Everyone who knew Tony knew him as a well-respected, kind gentleman who was a stable force for each life he touched. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, honesty, and his endless concern and genuine love for his clients and friends.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Divina Thayer, daughters Cindy Coontz (Dan) and Ashley Stepp (Josh), sister Pat Thayer half siblings Rosie, Henry, Shirley, James, grandchildren Annie Allhouse, Colt Stepp and Easton Stepp, great-grandchildren Richie Haas and Mary Allhouse, and a host of family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Woody Thayer.
The family welcomes friends and family for visitation on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Tony will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10:00 AM followed by internment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
