Suzanne was born on the 15th of October 1937, in Wharton, Texas, and was raised in Brenham, Texas. Suzanne is the daughter of Burford and Ruth Schoenemann.
A graduate of Brenham High School and Sam Houston State University, Suzanne married Edward Durron Johnson on the 26th of July 1959, and they resided in Houston together for over 50 years.
A former teacher, Suzanne was an active member of Chapelwood Methodist Church since 1962. She served as a devoted volunteer for many organizations including PTA president for Bunker Hill Elementary, Spring Branch Middle School, Memorial High School, was a volunteer for the Assistance League of Houston, Zeta Tau Alpha Alumni Association, was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and was an avid supporter of Spring Branch ISD. Suzanne enjoyed and supported the Brenham Maifest her entire life.
Suzanne is preceded in death by her father Burford Schoenemann of Brenham, Texas, her sister Diane Schoenemann Moore of Navasota, Texas, her brother Gary William Schoenemann of Lorena, Texas, and several other close family members. Suzanne is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Edward Durron Johnson, and her loving children, Edward Durron Johnson, Jr, and daughter-in-law Jean Dugat Johnson; James Burford Johnson and daughter-in-law Martha Moody Johnson; Diane Johnson Taaffe and son-in-law Peter K. Taaffe; grandchildren, Hope Johnson, Sydney and Sarah Margaret Johnson, Philip, Robert, Mary, Michael Taaffe. She is also survived by her mother, Ruth Struve Schoenemann of Brenham, Texas, her aunt, Ruby Luedemann of Bellaire, Texas, and brother and sister-in-law Larry and Corliss Schoenemann of Harlingen, Texas. and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and devoted friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until seven o’clock this evening, Friday, the 17th of June, in the Parlor of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service and celebration of Suzanne's life is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 18th of June, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Drive in Houston, where Dr. Jim Jackson and Pastor Wick Stuckey are to co-officiate.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to gather and share remembrances of Suzanne during a reception to be held in the adjacent Fellowship Hall.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private graveside service and interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Suzanne’s name be directed to the Chapelwood Foundation, 11140 Greenbay Dr., Houston, TX, 77024.
