The life of the most wonderful, caring, intelligent, gregarious, friendly, and beautiful person came to an end after 69 years. Susan Lynn Johnson, of Houston, Texas, was taken to Heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was born in Jacinto City, Texas on February 13, 1955 to Joseph and Essie Johnson who preceded her in death and have welcomed her home and into their loving arms.
Susan spent her childhood in Northeast Houston with her parents and siblings Kathy, Karen and Paul. She loved playing with them and her neighborhood friends Sherry and Joyce Fisher. Hours were spent playing kickball, badminton, skating on the driveway and at Timberland Roller Rink, riding her bicycle, and playing school. She loved animals and had many pets throughout her life. She attended church at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and marked as a child of God.
Susan loved school and waery involvs ved in extracurricular activities. During high school at M.B Smiley she was a member and officer of the Colleens Drill/Dance Team, a Class Officer, member and officer of the Student Council, member of the National Honor Society, and graduated with honors. She earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Houston and became a teacher and school counselor.
Susan devoted 42 years to Channelview ISD beginning her career at DeZavala Elementary in 1980 as a physical education teacher and transitioning to a counseling role at DeZavala in 1997. In 2010, she became a counselor at Kolarik 9th Grade Center, where she served until her retirement in 2022. Susan profoundly touched the lives of countless students, families and colleagues. Her dedication, compassion, and wisdom left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.
Her greatest joy in life was nurturing and loving her son Jeremy and her grandson Cayden. They were the center of her world and they loved her dearly. She loved to travel with Jeremy throughout his life and enjoyed spending time with Cayden. She and Cayden would visit her life-long friend Tracy Fuller’s farm where they would enjoy interacting with all of the animals, spending time with nature, and playing board games. Susan was an avid Houston Astro fan and rarely missed watching them play. She also enjoyed crocheting and watching game shows.
Susan is survived by: her son, Jeremy Acrey; grandson, Cayden Acrey; Partner Dennis Kindred; sister Kathy Clark and her husband Gary; sister Karen Weeks and her husband Jerry; and brother Paul Johnson and wife Lisa. She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and her life-long friends.
A visitation for Susan will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 1:30 to 2:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A funeral service will follow from 2:30 to 3:30 PM. A committal service will be held at 3:30 PM.
