Shirley Ann Bivens Pilsner, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. She was born in Houston, TX on January 23, 1930 to Robert and Claire Bivens. Shirley graduated from Reagan High School and played in the marching band. She also enjoyed singing and playing the bells in her church choir as well as leading Sunday school music on the piano. Shirley was married for 59 years to Erman August Pilsner who passed on June 19, 2009. They were married in Houston on July 2, 1949 and started their family there. They moved to Port Bolivar in the late 70's and enjoyed many years with their children and grandchildren, spending the days out fishing and evenings sitting on the porch. Shirley also loved to play bingo, go to the casino, and watch the Astros.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her youngest sister, Martha "Susie" Poppenhusen, and her daughter, Becky Pilsner. She is survived by her eldest sister, Bobbie Jones; her children, Edythe Oliver and husband, Richard, Robert Pilsner and wife, Gay, Debbie Hightower and husband, Mark, and Michael Pilsner. She was 'Granny' to her grandchildren, Wendy McCurley and husband BJ, Kelly Moore and husband Andy, Arthur Pilsner and wife Sara, Heidi Pilsner, Alex Pilsner, Haley Pilsner, Hannah Priggel and husband Ty, Kristy Etzler and husband Darren, Amy Hightower, Natasha Guidry, Russell Garland and wife Rindy, Tiffany Boyett and husband Brian; and great grandchildren, Laura, Byron, Wyatt, Rylie, Saydi, Laynie, Brandon, Paige, Colten, Rickki, Matty, Caleb, Mackenzie, Megan, Zach.
Shirley's services will be held at Brookside Funeral Home., 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX. Visitation will precede the service from 2-3pm on Friday, November 13, 2015 , with the funeral at 3p.m. Interment will follow the service in Brookside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer Foundation.
