Shirley Bishop Johnson

Our Queen gone but never Forgotten." A daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and much more. A renowned, well-known, intelligent, and highly respected person. Heartfelt friend, Social Worker, and Sister in Christ, who would speak the truth in her special way and would never meet a stranger, she loves us all. Shirley Temple Bishop Johnson was born April 22, 1936, in the Traditional Generation also known as "The Lucky Few". Mrs. Shirley Temple Bishop Johnson is the 3* daughter of 8 children born of our Late (Bro.) Mr. Judge Bishop, Jr., and (Sis) Mrs. Bennie Pegues Bishop. Siblings: Alvin Bishop & Wilma Bishop Perry, Billie Bishop Scott, Eddie Earl Bishop Gilbert Bishop, Sr. &, Jearldene Anderson; Grandchildren: Rachel Robinson and Daveon Jones preceded her in death. We all know, mom loved to sing as well as direct. She was a "leader" in every sense of the word within her community as well as in the church. Mom was baptized at the age of 12, by her father, Bro. Judge Bishop, Jr., in the Sabine River at Harris Chapel Church of Christ in Longview, TX. Later she became a member of Rollins Church of Christ in Longview, TX followed by Fidelity Church of Christ in Houston, TX under the leadership of Bro. Theaster Maloy Sr., Bro. Micheal Williams II, and currently Bro. Anthony Fletcher, Jr. Her singing began to grow, in church, school talent shows, and much more. Mother was a member of the Celesti-als Echoes, (The Shirlets), The Four Joys a Grace, as well as singing the National anthems multiple years at the National Longshoreman Association. She also song on KCHO Radio broadcast with the Fidelity Chorus for many years singing hymns such as "Don't Put Off Today for Tomorrow: and "I Am Redeemed. She traveled near and far from Longview, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Nevada, Colorado, Louisi-ana, to name a few, she song sweet melodies. Throughout her membership at Fidelity, Mother brought many others to hear the word, and many souls were baptized. She never met a stranger; she loved us all. In Longview, TX Mother attended school in Rollins Elementary, Longview Colored High, the school name was changed to Longview Negro High, now known as Longview High. She pursued a higher education after the family moved to Houston, TX at Texas Southern University. Studies included Sociology Minor with English Major. In our family home we entertained through song, housed Ministers throughout the brotherhood when they came to speak to local congregations, extended family members, her brother, and nephews. When a family needed assistance when there loved one passed, she was there assistance with what ever services needed, especially writing a celebration of life program. She was a community activist, philanthropist to all that she came in contact with small or great.

On Wednesday November 22, 2023, Shirley Bishop Johnson transitioned from her earthly life to sweet rest. Her legacy of love and cherished memories will remain in the hearts of her husband Royce L. Johnson; four children Shelia Robinson (John), Marilyn Robertson, Renae Stephens (Larry) all of Houston, TX; Jesse Robertson (Jan), Zachary, LA; nine grandchildren, Myron, Il (Nilia) of Jackson, MS, John, I (Nakita), Jaina, Royce, (Shaun), Ebonee, Larry, I (Sharonda), Judge, Jada, Jacee; eleven great-grandchildren; Jaydin, John, III, Myron, III, Quante', Mylah, Grae, Ar-riana, Simone, Landyn, Shiloh, Saint; one sibling; Anthony Bishop, Sr., of Dallas, TX; our sisters-in-laws Eva Bell, of Centerville, TX; Dorothy Willis, Bessye Clark (Franklin), of Sugar Land, TX, Loisy Johnson, of Crosby, TX; two brothers-in-love Allen Johnson (Loretta), of Houston, TX; Goree Johnson (Diane), of Desoto, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
