On a bright and beautiful day of October 13th, 1960 in Houston Texas, a baby girl was born to James Henry, Sr. and Rose Marie Alford-Cox. They named her Sherry Denise. She is the oldest daughter of three children created from this union. Sherry attended Ms. Jefferson Private School, SA Pleasant Elementary, E.O. Smith Jr High and Phillis Wheatley High School. After graduation from High School, she attended Texas Southern University. During her sophomore year, her life dream of being a pharmacist came to a drastic halt as she became the sole caretaker for her mother, Rose. Sherry accepted Christ in her life at an early age at The Church of The Living God Temple #18. Being a product of a vocal family, she quickly rose as one of the lead singers in the Youth and Young Adult Church choir. She also was one of the primary catalyst behind the creation of a local and national singing group, The United Voices of Houston. With singing for the Lord as the nucleus of her life it created a magnet that helped develop lasting relationships that cultivated 40+ years of friendship. Later, She placed her memberships at St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church and then New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was a devoted choir member. She remained faithful at New Pleasant Grove until her death. The Lord blessed Sherry with an ever friendly, open-hearted demeanor. She always bestowed this exceptional spirit on all she met, no matter what walk of life. Sherry was a "doer': someone who would not sit back, but would assist whenever needed. She was truly an inspiration of how you are to treat your fellow man: with love, kindness, respect and support. Sherry departed this life on Saturday, September 8, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rose Cox; grandmother Mary Louise Alford, Aunt Rena Mae Alford, and several other grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Sherry leaves to mourn, her brothers Gary (Jackie), James Jr., Anthony Crissman, sisters Al Simone Scott and Rosemary Cook (Sean), Aunts: Jean (Clinton), Ozella, Essie Mae, God Brother Troylon Griffin (Kathyrn), God Son's Aaron Donnell and Tyrone Gabriel, and hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
