On Monday, November 15, 2021, Prof. Sheng Hsien Lin passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and sons. He was 84 years old. Prof. Lin was a charismatic and accomplished academician, holding 12 academic positions across 7 academic institutions, winning 16 honors and awards, publishing more than 30 books, over 800 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and boasted over 150 collaborators. His scientific contributions were acknowledged in a special issue of Journal of Physical Chemistry in 2007.
An equally devoted family man, Prof. Lin married Prof. Pearl Hsiu-Ping in 1970, and together had two sons, Huie and Bing. Prof. Lin also deeply loved his parents and 8 brothers and sisters, so much that he relocated his budding family to Taiwan to be closer to them. It was with his family, particularly his grandchildren, that Prof. Lin revealed his authentic, silly self. Prof. Lin, a respected academician in the scientific world, was also a world-class clown with his grandchildren, often provoking them to fits of laughter and spoiling them with treats like ice cream or potato chips.
Prof. Lin lived a long, rich, and loving life, and was able to touch the lives of countless others. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
A celebration of life for Sheng will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021 starting at 2:00 PM at Houston Chinese Church, 10305 S. Main St., Houston, TX 77025. Following the celebration of life will be a committal service at 3:30 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
