Selby (Michael) Johnson

Selby (Michael) Johnson, 55, of Houston, Texas, passed away on December 25th, 2012. He was born in California, Trinidad, West Indies on December 4th, 1957. Selby graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School and subsequently graduated from Berk Trade School with training in auto-mechanics.

Selby was the proud owner of VIP Town Car Limo Company. He was also a member of the United States Army, serving in Korea as a medical assistant, and receiving honors as a sharp shooter prior to an honorable discharge.

Selby was a phenomenal athlete, excelling in track and field, as well as soccer. He loved spending time with family and organizing family outings, while balancing his passion for work and cherishing time spent with his customers. Selby also took pleasure in spending time with his friends, especially hanging out at “the track.”

Selby was a Christian man and a consistent donator to the Salvation Army--always willing to lend a helping hand. His fun, easygoing personality and witty sense of humor never failed to brighten someone’s day.

Even in his last days, Selby remained fearless and courageous. Treasured by many, he was and forever will be remembered as a dedicated man, full of love, loyalty and respect—never to be forgotten.

Selby is survived by his loving wife and partner of 35 years, Sandra Reifer-Johnson of Houston, Texas; daughter Renee Johnson of Houston, Texas; step-daughter Jan Leach of Houston, Texas; grandson Nathaniel Leach of Houston, Texas; daughter Keisha Layne of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughters Thoni and Tyla Blackstock of San Antonio, Texas; parents Leo and Violet Johnson of Trinidad, West Indies; sister Althea “Annmarie” Johnson of Long Island, New York; brothers Carlyle Gilkes of New York, Alroy “Toney” Johnson of Brooklyn, New York, and Shirwyn Johnson of Houston, Texas; along with several nieces and nephews.
