Russell "Rusty" LeRoy Lindsay, Jr.

Russell “Rusty” LeRoy Lindsay, Jr., 66, originally of Richmond, Virginia but a Houston Texan since 1979, passed from this life to the next on the Monday, the 5th of June 2023, in his favorite place – his comfy home office recliner chair.

Rusty was born on the 5th of September 1956, in Richmond, Virginia to Russell LeRoy Lindsay, Sr. and Barbara Lee Lindsay. He attended Virginia Tech University and moved to Houston in 1979. Until his recent retirement, Rusty worked in sales, where people would say he could “sell sand to a beach.” His charisma, charm, and outgoing personality not only helped his sales career but also led to many friendships throughout the years. These lifelong friends have said that knowing Rusty not only brought laughter into their world, but it also came with amazing food as Rusty was known to cook just about anything. His “party meatballs,” shrimp casserole, crawfish stuffed chicken breast, gumbo, etouffee, and bananas foster are a few of his signature dishes that will be missed for years to come.

He is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie Lindsay Holcombe (Randy) and Amanda Lindsay Evans (Marshall), along with their mother Ellen Mauldin (Charlie) who remained a dear friend to Rusty through the years. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Addison Nicole Evans, Madison Anne Holcombe, Allison Grace Evans, Katelyn Ries Holcombe, and William Graeme Holcombe, who he loved dearly; his two siblings, Darren Lindsay (Jana) and Deborah Rowland (Rick); as well as their children and grandchildren; his aunt, Carol Parrish; and her sons, Mitchell Parrish (Starr) and Ryan Parrish.

A celebration of life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 11th of June, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Rusty’s honor be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (“JDRF”), whose charter is to find better treatments, preventions and ultimately, a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through critical research at https://www.jdrf.org.
