On May 26th, 1945, Roy Cecil Paxton Jr. was birthed into this world from Bordersville, Tx a small town outside of Humble. Roy Cecil Paxton was given his name from his loving parents, Annie Bell Paxton & Roy Cecil Paxton, Sr. She was blessed with 8 beautiful children. Roy retired from Texaco Oil company where he was employed with them for 25 years. He was also an entrepreneur and owner of Paxton and Sons Lawn, a graduate of R.S. Institute as a licensed barber, and a graduate at Lakewood Bible Institute. He was also known for his FAMOUS BBQ, which he later coined the phrase, titled, “Million Dollar Ribs on Wheels.” His life changed in such a beautiful way, the day he married Debbie Marie Bowser from North Carolina. Roy has often been quoted as saying the following famous phrase, “I’m believing God for a wife.” He served faithfully at Lakewood Church alongside his loving wife, Debbie Marie Bowser Paxton, as prayer partners under Pastor John Osteen for 10 years. In life, Roy and Debbie Paxton were blessed with 3 beautiful children, Tracey Renee Paxton, Stephen Roy Paxton, and Christopher Ryan Paxton.
I would like to share the memory of my darling. He became a born-again Christian on February 6, 1976, when his youngest brother Daniel witnessed to him about the Lord Jesus Christ. He immediately accepted Him as his personal Savior for you see the Lord had been drawing him to Himself as he stated to me in his testimony how nothing fulfills him anymore and he became tired of his lifestyle. He loved his connect time with the Lord by reading His Word daily. One of his favorite Bible verses was Hebrews 6:10 which say: For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. Right after this conversion he began to pass out Bible tracts to everyone he met. Going into neighborhoods as the Holy Spirit would lead him thereby helping a married couple get their marriage on the right track and afterwards prayed for them to have children of which they had three. This was his joy. He so loved people and did not want anyone to die and go to hell. We started going to Lakewood Church after five years of attending The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Humble, Texas. After attending Lakewood for ten years, we later attended Glorious Way Church in Houston, Texas for twenty years. His last membership was Dwelling Place Church with Randy and Lucie Needham as pastorship; in which he was a greeter and part of the welcoming party. Roy taught me many things which I am grateful for:time management and how to witness with boldness. He would often say, “Honey (that is what he always called me) people put their pants on one leg at a time just like you do”. Sometimes I would say why don’t you witness to that person over there. He would reply, the Lord led you to do that, and I would. This became my joy as well. We often talked about our greatest memories as a family, and it was raising his children. Every year he would take us on a vacation and the joy of spending time together was fulfilling. We will carry on his legacy of building hope in the lives of people wherever we meet them. Roy loved his God, family and people which was so tangible and paramount.
