Ron served his country in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1988. Ron retired after 40 years. He served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He traveled during his time in the Air Force living in Okinawa, France, and throughout the United States.
Ron also served as a deacon at our church, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Santa Maria, California for many years.
Ron was the happiest when he was with his wife Rosemary Gibson. They were dedicated and had similar interests. Ron was married to the love of his life, Rosemary Gibson, for 55+ years. They loved to travel, especially on cruises. They traveled twice around the world, but they wanted to get to know people as they traveled. They were very adventurous. Their most extensive trips were done on freight liners as they could go home with the crew members and learn customs, food, and language. Yes, they even learned to protect the ships they were on. They traveled for as much as three months at a time. They also did many luxury cruises as well.
Ron also loved directing plays. Ron and Rosemary lived in Santa Maria, California where they ran a local theater, the Santa Maria Civic Theater. He especially loved summer stock because there was the plethora of talent to select from in that area. From Robbin Williams to Fess Parker and many more they enjoyed all that the theater had to offer.
They always sought out new adventures and everything this world had to offer.
I do not use the word “we” lightly when it comes to Ron. Ron and Rosemary were inseparable and they loved each other beyond measure. They were always together. There was hardly a time you would find them without each other, holding hands, in deep conversation and planning their next trip. Mom died three years before dad and his life was changed forever. Ron waited patiently until he was reunited with her. It was hard losing dad but knowing he was reunited with the love of his life gave us much peace.
Ron is survived by his children Carolyn Carr and husband Vernon Carr (deceased), Leslie Taylor III and wife Alma Taylor (deceased) and Kelli DeBerry. Five grandchildren, Misty Montez and husband John Montez, Kevin Carr and wife Pamela Carr, Brian Carr and wife Dana Carr, Kelli Taylor and Leslie William Taylor the 4th.
Ron had seven great grandchildren, Ilan Montez, Ethan Carr, Gabriel Carr, Caitlin Carr, Sarah Carr, Leslie William Taylor the 5th and Angela Taylor.
Ron is now reunited with both of his parents George and Marie Gibson and his sister Evelyn Gibson. Ron was loved by many extended family and friends. Thanks to all who loved and cared for him throughout his 88 years of life.
