Today, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Roberta Vaughns. She was born in Willis, Texas on December 2, 1922 to a loving family as the only girl. She had a brother, Charlie Wofford, to Mr. and Mrs. Eliza Wofford. She moved to Houston at an early age. Sister Roberta Vaughns accepted Christ at an early age.
She was a member of Gospel Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dixon. She loved God and she loved her church. She worked at the Wyndham Warwick Hotel for 20 years and Houston Independent School System for several years. She concluded her tenure working at the M. D. Anderson Hospital with Dr. Clark.
She had three sons, Jessie Vaughns, Major Ross and Joseph Leroy Ross. She was an advocate for helping people. She opened a hamburger stand in front of her house and sold hamburgers in the Fifth Ward Community for numerous years. Her faith in Christ never wavered. She loved to cook, as she did for many of years. In addition to church, Sister Roberta Vaughns, centered her life around family, friends and community.
On October 7, 2024, Sister Roberta Vaughns transitioned to heaven. She was preceded in death by; her parents; brother, Charlie Wofford; and her three sons, Jessie Vaughns, Major Ross and Joseph Leroy Ross.
Roberta leaves to cherish her sweet memories; her loving, caring and devoted grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; extended family and friends; and The New Beginning Worship Center members.
