Born December 15, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Robert Raymond Whitlow Jr. (known to family and friends as Bobby and later as Bob) passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 at his home in Houston, Texas surrounded by his loving family and friends. He had put up a valiant fight against prostate cancer since 2015.
Bob spent his early years making lifelong friends at OKC’s Putnam Heights Elementary and later graduated from Harding High School in 1967. He had a natural athleticism, excelling at football and baseball as well as Boy Scouts throughout his youth. Bob graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater in 1971, where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He earned his MBA from Oklahoma City University and then began his business career at Local Federal Bank before signing on with Conoco and changing his life forever.
Bob met his wife Diane on the 30th floor of Conoco’s building at Greenway Plaza in Houston. She asked him out and they married less than a year later on November 26, 1977. His career spanning 40 years in finance roles of increasing responsibility led him to visit countries all over the world, including five years in London before moving back to Houston and having children. Together Diane and Bob raised two sons, Robert William and Brian Michael, who enjoyed countless weekends of soccer, baseball, and many fun family trips. Retirement meant many hours on the golf course, with his sons and regular golfing buddies, winning tournaments at his local country club and even making two hole-in-ones.
Traits of honesty, directness, hard work, and mirth won Bob many cherished lifelong friends. Robert Whitlow Jr. leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Diane Whitlow of Houston, sons, Brian Whitlow of Dallas and Bobby Whitlow and wife Kinsey Whitlow of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Raymond Whitlow and Virginia Cantrell. Bob leaves behind his legacy of valuing family, friends, hard work, and loving life. He will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
