Bob was born to Abner Weston Walker and Margaret Maher on November 9, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. An only child, he spent his youth in Brooklyn and in 1942 joined the US Marine Corps. Although he was ready to serve overseas at any time, he was fortunate to have served his country in various bases in the US as an air traffic controller. After the war, he continued to serve in the US Marine Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1952.
In 1947 he attended North Texas State University on the GI Bill where he double majored in economics and marketing. Fortune would bestow him again when his professor went to work for Gulf Oil in Venezuela and offered him, his best student, a job after graduating in 1949. It was in Caracas that he met the love of his life Alice Evans. They were married on June 16, 1951 in Caracas, Venezuela. His work with Gulf which was called Mene Grande sent him to San Tome, Maracaibo, Lagunillas and back to Caracas. Their four children were born in Venezuela during their years there. In 1970 the family transferred to Coral Gables, Florida for four years, then to Denver, Colorado for two years and to Houston in 1976. In 1983 Dad retired from Gulf. Bob and Alice and remained in Houston and were married for fifty six years until her passing in 2007.
Bob is survived by his children Margaret and husband Steven Bluestein, Patricia, Katherine and husband Robert Hux, Steven and his children Robert II and wife Cameron and , Matthew and Cate, great grandsons Johnathan and James (children of Robert II and Cameron), sister in law Graciela Evans, nephew John Hatch and niece Elizabeth White.
Funeral mass will be held at St John Vianney Catholic Church with reception to follow on January 16, 2018 at 10:30am.
