Bob worked for Armco, Brown & Root, and Horizon Offshore (later known as Cal-Dive). He loved woodworking, bragging about his children & grandchildren, and Lin’s cooking. He always preferred female doctors because they were more compassionate and truly listened. Bob thought very highly of Dr. Chhibber and Dr. Preston. He enjoyed talking to all the ladies at Kroger’s…especially in the pharmacy. Bob often mentioned how lucky he felt having such great neighbors and felt that people underestimated how important they really are. He was very much a home-body and the only events he seemed to look forward to were family get-togethers and the annual Alta Mesa Christmas party. Bob had very few needs or wants; he was a creature of habits and did not welcome changes.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Lin Lancon Varner; his daughter, Chris Turbitt; his son, Matt Varner; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Suzanne Ellingsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael Knight; his granddaughters, Mandy Turbitt and Samantha Turbitt; grandsons Reece Varner, Logan Varner, Tristan Knight, and Ethan Ellingsworth. He is also survived by his 13 year old Mini Dachshund, Ruby.
The family has chosen to have a viewing service to celebrate Bob Varner’s life. The service will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home (12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077) on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a reception from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
