Bob and I became very close in the few years he lived here in Memphis. He was very active in the church life always participating in some of our group meetings, as well as the Lord’s Day and the prayer meetings. He loved Christ, the church and was very active in shepherding and the gospel. He also loved his family very much and never spoke negatively about them, he only cared for them having a loving relationship with the Lord. 

He always brought a joyful spirit into our group meetings. He was full of burden for anyone who might be open to see God’s economy, the value of Christ’s shed blood on the cross and the hope all of us believers have in our coming bridegroom. I also believe he had a clear revelation of Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus said to His disciples, if anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” He would sometimes get discouraged from his failures and defeats but that never kept him from being active in the Christian life which is pursuing Christ. He always enjoyed the gathering life and I believe pursued to be one spirit with the Lord.  No matter where he lived after he left Memphis, he stayed in contact with me and his burden never changed for unbelievers, believers or his family. 

The last part of his journey was in Huntsville where I believe he was cared for and cared for many. He was always exited when we talked about having morning revival with some of the brothers. He would talk about their getting together and being in the fellowship and ministry of the New Testament apostles. He loved all of the saints in Huntsville very much although his health somewhat limited him in his being active there. He always spoke highly of everyone.

Sorry I can only speak positively about our brother and his pursuit of the Lord. He was always an encouragement to me and I always had a deeper seeking for experiencing the Lord after our times of fellowship.

Thank the Lord our brother is at rest.


I met Bob almost as soon as I moved to Houston.  I got off to a rough start, couch surfing for a while, trying to find whatever work I could as I prepared to get married.  When I came upon dead end after dead end, I sunk into depression.  About that time, Bob told me he had an extra room and I could stay there while I looked for work.  Brandee's folks lived close enough to walk and Brandee was often still back there so we could hang out, even though neither of us had two pennies to rub together.  

I rarely came out of that room, even as I heard Bob and a few others gather for what was often very joyful morning watch.  Finally one day I was talking to him before he went to sleep and I found out that he had some trouble in his married life so I began to tell him the story of my own broken family.  I had fears about getting married and he told me something I will never forget: 

"Forgiveness is the key to every aspect of our lives, and especially marriage."  

This was a man who spoke this from the perspective of the cross of Jesus Christ.

I found out in the coming months that he had a passion for vital small groups, just as I do to this day.  We spent many a joyous time after prayer meetings, with our feet under Marjorie Mashburn's table.  Those will be eternal memories for me.

He never asked for rent for the several months I stayed with him.  This is who he was, a man of quiet generosity, living out a thankless life of the virtues of his Savior.

Brother Bob loved to be with the young people.  At the student meetings on Friday nights, he would always be sitting at the table with them. Then, when it was time to begin singing, brother Bob would be the first to move to the living room and start the singing. The brothers with guitars would follow him and all the young people would gather around and sing love songs to God.

Bob and his wife, Totty, were instrumental in our ( Ted, Tiara and I)   move from Flatwoods, KY,  to Lexington, Ky in 2012.  He was so full of the Lord that he made us smile each time we heard the Lord speak through him.  I smile now just thinking about him and Totty  and our times of fellowship as well as our lunches at one of his favorite places....Chili's.  He has now graduated to where we are longing to be.  I thank the Lord for having our paths cross with so many saints and that Bob was one of them.

I met Bob in the early church-life in the 70’s and was always helped by his way of putting himself lower indicating that he expected what I had to share Christ was very rich. Later, for close to ten years, starting in the 90’s, I had with Bob and other brothers a five days/week early morning revival time in Alief that was so helpful to me. When the original hosting saints moved away, Bob began hosting at his place, always preparing coffee and a comfortable place, always eager to serve us and to actively stimulate fellowship. Eventually we lived many states apart, yet Bob would remember to call me and we were instantly back in the flow of the Spirit together, fellowshipping and praying. These kind of visits continued until he could not any longer. He always expressed thanks to the Lord for including him in His great purpose, spoke well of his family and all the saints. I treasure the times I have had in fellowship with Bob and will really miss him.

I MET BOB about 45 years ago  . BOB was a friendly, cheerful brother in the Lord,trying to lead a simple life with Christ and the church.
When we reconnected in Huntsville Texas his life had changed dramatically, but  he  wanted to pursue  Christ and be in the church life as much as possible...He enjoyed fellowship with College students in their meetings...Thoughts of his family were always in him and  he prayed much for them  encouraging  the saints in Huntsville to do so also..We will miss him.
