Just saw this and was shocked and saddened. I worked with him at Bear Creek in Houston back in the late 70’s / early 80’s. He always made me laugh and loved the Coogs! He had insatiable energy and it was contagious. My heart goes out to his family.

I was unaware Robert passed away until today.  My brothers Jeff, Joe, and I attended his Junior Golf Program at Bear Creek Golf World in the early 80's.  Then later Jeff & I both worked under Robert at Bear Creek Golf World in the mid 80's when we were in high school.  Robert was always very supportive of us.  My best memory of him is when he got us into an HGA Junior Golf Invitational Tournament at River Oaks and he sponsored us by giving us some golf balls and telling us to "play good".  He was a great supporter of junior golfers.  We will miss him.

Sad day indeed lots of love posted here for our brother and friend. Robert had a unique personality where he instantly became friends with everyone he met. God bless his family and welcome him home. I wish I could be there. 

I had quite a few conversations with Robert at Memorial Park over the years. They were memorable for being friendly and upbeat- even when talking about some of the difficult health issues which he went through.  They were also memorable, Michelle, for the way he spoke of you with deep love and admiration. I feel lucky to have know him. 

Dear Michelle and Olson Family,

I am heartbroken over the loss of my very good friend and golf teacher.  Robert & I spoke by phone often during his many recent health issues.  I met Robert the same way many others did - at the Memorial Park golf range where he would patrol the range, offering suggestions to help any player struggling with their swing. He loved teaching which led to our many years of instruction.  He made the game simple and fun again!  But most of all, I will miss his always smiling face, his UH sports comments and sincere friendship.  He regularly checked up on me, particularly during my cancer treatment.  He served his country with honor and his profession with dignity and commitment. I will always remember him. RIP and God bless you.

1997… that’s me in the front along with other lifetime friends in NYC. It’s one of many memories I was blessed to experience while learning and growing under Pro. His impact on my life and many others in this photo is unmeasurable. He exposed many of us to things for the first time and taught us the value of life experiences along with the game of golf.  Pro not only had an impact on me personally but also my family. He was like family to us and made everyone feel as if we were one of the Olsons too. His light and energy will definitely be missed.

Robert was always friendly and upbeat, even when he was teaching a poor golfer like me. He will be greatly missed. So sorry for your loss Michelle. I will keep you, Robert and your whole family in my prayers.

So very sad to hear of Robert's passing. He was a good friend, teacher, employee, and a Great Houston Cougar. Golf in Houston is better because of his love of the game.

Robert "G" Olson, my friend, RIP.  
I met Robert “G” Olson in November of 1975, aboard the USS Hoel DDG-13 in Long Beach California.  I was a 17-year-old kid from Greenwood, South Carolina.  I remember the way we met and have often shared this with my family when speaking of Robert.  I was laying in my rack, this young good-looking guy walked up to me, started talking to me out of the blue.  He then stated to me, “ I am Robert G. Olson, and I am from Houston Texas”, and as they say, the rest is history.  Throughout my life I have never met a  person that has impacted my life more than this individual.   He instilled something in me that has been a cornerstone in my life, confidence in my personal ability.  Robert became my friend, along with Jimmy, and over the next four years we shared many adventures in foreign lands.  His personality and outlook on life was of such magnitude that many would envy him.   When you are in the military you  become very close to your buddies and often you drift apart after service.  We remained friends and stayed in contact with each other over the next 40 plus years.  It is with great sadness that I learned of his passing from his son, Robbie.  I will miss our phone calls immensely, and in closing, “I will miss my friend”.  Robert I will see you on the other side, without a doubt.  We can laugh and swap stories about the past as we often did when we talked.   Michele and family, I offer my sincere condolences.    

I’m so sorry for your loss. I went to high school with the Olson boys. And it’s terrible that we have lost the 3 oldest at such a young age. Terrible loss. 

I was very sorry to hear of Robert’s passing. He was a great person who worked for me at Bear Creek. He was a dedicated employee and always promoted juniors. He did a great job with the first tee program and never really got the recognition he deserved. May god bless his family and May he finally rest in peace.

He was like a brother from another Mother, a mentor to my daughter (Maggie Noel) in the First Tee program. A towering figure exuding much love for all the kids he encountered, he will be missed. Robert was known for tackling problems and finding solutions he was always saying "I put out fires".

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob and his wife, Michelle on an Italy trip.  He was so much fun, always smiling and laughing. a very positive man.  He will be missed by many.


My most sincere sympathy to Roberts loving family! My love and prayers to all!  He was a great man! May he be resting in the arms of the angels!
