Rob was born on August 20, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edna and Robert Hampton. He graduated from St. James Catholic High School in 1969 where he played on the golf team and developed his lifelong love of the game. In high school, he worked as a caddy at Springhaven Country Club and received the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust, awarded to deserving caddies in the Philadelphia area. This scholarship enabled Rob to attend the Pennsylvania State University and graduate in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity where he served as President during his senior year. During these formative college years, he developed his love for all things Penn State and met his future bride Jenifer (Jennie) Bryan. Rob and Jennie wed in 1974 in State College and were married for 46 years.
Upon graduation in 1973, his career began at Price Waterhouse and Co. Philadelphia in public accounting where he earned his CPA license and eventually transferred to Houston, TX in 1980 as a Senior Manager. Rob quickly took a liking to Houston and Texas culture and made it his family’s home for the next 41 years. After leaving Price Waterhouse and Co. in 1986 he started as the VP of Accounting with American Exploration. He then joined Hornbeck Offshore Services in Galveston, TX where he was the VP and CFO from 1989 - 1996. In 1996, after Tidewater Marine acquired Hornbeck Offshore Services, Rob served as the Area Manager North Sea Operations in Aberdeen, Scotland. After leaving Tidewater Marine and relocating back to Houston, Rob took the position as the CFO of HWC Energy Services, Inc., which was acquired by Oil States International. He served as the Senior Vice President of Accounting and Corporate Secretary at Oil States International from 1997 until his retirement in 2015. He attributed much of his success to luck, but all who know him have a suspicion it may have had something to do with hard work.
Rob loved golf, travel, wine, his cars and adopting the newest technology. Rob’s hobby of photography ensured that his family's memories were well documented. You could often find him playing 18 at one of the many country clubs of which he was a member over the years: Champions, Bay Oaks, Centre Hills and Royal Oaks. In 2007, Rob and Jennie purchased a second home in State College where they spent the Fall enjoying Penn State tailgates, football games and hosting friends and family. He was quick to make his guests a cocktail, preferably a Crown Royal Manhattan. From the fraternity house to his neighborhood, Rob made many dear friends over his lifetime. Always positive, practical, a little impatient and friendly he will be dearly missed by all he knew.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Corby and Robert Hampton. Rob is survived by his wife, Jennie Hampton; his brother, Bruce Hampton; his children, John Hampton and his wife, Julia, and Becky Greene and her husband, Mike; three grandchildren, Ben, Will and Mary Bryan Hampton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
