Robert Louis Erwin

Robert (Bob) Erwin passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024, in his home. He was born on March 18, 1941, in Longview, Texas. The family moved to Natchez, Mississippi during his early childhood. Along with his three younger brothers, Bob spent most of his formative years in Natchez. He graduated from Natchez High School, and attended Mississippi State for undergraduate studies, where he graduated with a degree in accounting in 1963. He obtained his CPA certification in 1964. After graduation, Bob worked at Arthur Anderson and Tenneco as a CPA. He also served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, Medical Service Corps from 1966-1969. He obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1973 and passed the Texas State Bar exam in 1974. He joined Melton and Melton in 1973. Bob married his first wife Ellen in 1963 (who sadly passed away with MS). Later, he fell in love with and married Mill Erwin in 1985, a fellow partner at Melton & Melton LLP CPAs, where he worked until his retirement in 2017.

His many interests over the years included water skiing and boating in Lake Travis, supporting the local Houston professional sports teams, coaching youth sports, vacationing with his family, listening to classic country music, and supporting those around him with is immense love and wisdom. Bob was also a history buff, having read numerous volumes on American history. He was an avid card player and board game enthusiast with his brothers, friends, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Maribell Erwin; his first wife, Ellen; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth; his brother, Steve Erwin; and his nephews, Evan Erwin and Trey Smejkal.

He is survived by his wife, Mill and stepson Alex Elsik and daughter-in-law Kara and granddaughter Ava; his brothers and their spouses Charles and Ruth, Dan and Lisa, Karen, and Jerry; his Melton brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Palmer and Dolores, Talley and Carolyn, and Marge; his nieces, nephews and their spouses Dana and Scott Babin, Ryan Erwin, Whitney and Scott Greneaux, Julia and Sean Dave, Jay and Leslie Zaffater, Lauren Zaffater, Marisa and Chris Hamer, Meredith and Ryen Johnston, Macy Melton, Mandy Smejkal, Chris and Stephanie Melton, Caroline and Kevin Williams, and Dottie and John Laster; his great-nieces and nephews, Cam and Owen Babin, Reese and Zoey Greneaux, Colton Hamer, Lauren Johnston, Nikki and Crawford Humble, Blake and Stephanie Laster, Wyatt and Samantha Melton, Addison Reagan, Caitlin, Jacob and Garic Zaffater, Magali Zaffater, and Hayden, Rachel, Annie, and Evan Williams; and second cousins of Mill, Becky Burnham and Sally Moore.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., CST on February 3rd at Grace Presbyterian Church in the chapel, where Bob and Mill were married in 1985. A reception will follow.
