Richard was always so helpful! I always knew that if he got our IT request from the lab he would not stop working it until it was fixed the right way. He is greatly missed. May his memory always be a blessing to you.

I am so sorry to hear about Richard's passing!  He was a godsend to us here at the VA in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.  He always enjoyed my gumbo.  He will truly be missed.  May God keep His hand on all of his family, because he truly was a gem.  God Bless.

Richard will be missed. Such a great personality who was a joy to know and work with. My 11 years working at the VA with him was a joy. Always willing to extend help and he greatly influenced my development as an IT technician.  My condolences to all his family and friends in this time of grief but always embrace his memory and legacy.

I am sincerely sorry for the loss of Richard. I have many memories of Richard over the last 23 years. He was a good friend and will be dearly missed. Richard was always their to listen and give input when needed both personally and professionally. Prayers to the family as you grieve and hopes of healing as you find a path to move forward.

Richard was such a good friend to me and a fantastic co-worker who helped train me! Richard always had a smile and a helping hand whenever I or anyone needed it. He spoke of his family often and I felt like I knew everyone!

I know you and the family are devastated by the loss of Richard.  It was definitely unexpected on my end.  I have some very fond memories of him as I know you and the family do as well. Richard was a person who could always be counted on to tell you like it was.  He bent my ear on many of occasions and let me know if there was something I could do better. I rode on a vanpool with Richard for a couple of years.  He was smart.  And unique.    One thing that always stood out in my mind about Richard was his love of his family.  He spoke often about them on our rides to/from work at MEDVAMC.

I remember one day in the Navy on the US McKee in Vancouver Canada; I was signing up for white water rafting excursion.  I new if not enough people signed up it would be canceled.  No free trip.  I caught Stuart and Rick in the passageway and got them to sign up with me.  Then I told them how early departure time was.  They groaned at the idea but I wouldn’t let him back out.  White water rafting was great and we acted like salt water sailors, or perhaps a little more like pirates.
Each raft has a guide who steers the raft and keeps things fun and safe.  Each raft gets one bucket to bail water out of the raft also.  Well the rapids were pretty big and Rick lost the bucket when we went downward into the bottom of a big swell.  “Now what do we do!?” I told Rick we need a bucket and the only one I see is in those other rafts.  Why not board their raft.  Rick got a big smile on his face.  We quickly worked like a team of sailors up to no good.  Rick would do the boarding of the other raft.  So he laid low in the bow of our raft.  Our job was to trick the guide into getting us close to another raft.  We did talk the guide into getting close to another raft by saying something innocent.  But as we got closer to the other raft I think our guide seen the glint in our eyes as he glanced at Stuart and I then Rick down in the bottom of the raft peeking over the side ready to jump.  I could see the guide was adding two and two together because all of the sudden he got us away from all other rafts the rest of the trip down the river.  No trust in sailors I swear.
