Born October 3, 1932 in Long Island City, NY, Richie was the son of August "Gus" Rudolph and Mary Mack Rudolph. He spent his childhood in Flushing, NY enjoying summers at Little Neck Bay fishing, clamming, and exploring the bay on a boat he built. After graduating from Bayside High School in 1949, Rich went on to study chemical engineering at Columbia University graduating in 1954.
He began his career with Mobil, but went on to spend most of it in metallurgy with Huntington Alloys. In 1960, Dick moved to Houston, Texas where he began his family.
He had a brilliant mind and talent for languages. As an adult, he learned to speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently, in addition to German which he could speak from childhood.
Like the rest of his family, he enjoyed travel. His love of Mayan ruins led to one of the biggest adventures of his life: a three-week canoe trip down the Usumacinta River between Mexico and Guatemala with four close friends in 1977.
Survived by his wife, Dianna, children, Kristen, Bill, and Susan, and sister, Mary. Predeceased by son, Richard.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 2, from 5 to 7 pm at Earthman Hunters Creek Funeral Home. Following a private graveside service, there will be a memorial service at Tallowood Baptist Church at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 3, with a reception to follow at the church.
The family appreciates your prayers and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Border Collie Rescue Texas (www.bcrescuetexas.org) in honor of his love of Charlie and Babe.
