Richard Charles Hendricks (Rick to his friends) was born on Easter Day, March 28, 1948 to Clinton H. Hendricks and Edith Teresia (Anderson) Hendricks, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Rick crossed the State Line between Missouri and Kansas when he went home to Westwood, Kansas (part of Shawnee Mission, Kansas). Rick passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022. He grew up attending Westwood View Grade School, Old Mission Junior High School and Shawnee Mission North High School, class of 1966. He also attended the University of Houston for four years. Rick’s early life was centered around church, sports, school and community.
Rick is survived by his wife of many years, Cindy Hendricks, as well as his four step children (which he took to become his own), Stace Pierce, Michele Pierce (now Norman), Elliott Day and Carter Day.
The youngest of six children, Rick is survived by his four brothers and sister, Clinton H Hendricks II (Joan), David B Hendricks, Alan B Hendricks (Jane) and Randal A Hendricks (Jill), and Carol Hendricks Smale, his big sister, as well as a large number of nephews and nieces.
Rick was a beloved husband, step dad, father, son, brother, friend and uncle to many, who called him Uncle Rick.
Rick excelled at many sports, but was exceptional at bowling, a sport his father loved. Rick bowled a number of 300 games and many 800 series. He was ranked in the top 10 of senior bowlers in the State of Texas for many years. He was a fanatic Astros, Texans, and Houston Cougars fan (in all sports). Rick was a successful business owner, doing a range of construction projects in the Houston area on outdoor amenities at residential homes, as well as commercial developments. His last named venture was Rick’s Concrete.
A favorite story of Rick’s was when he and Randy were invited by Astros players to come to a friends and family event at Dave & Busters in early 2005. Rick and Randy decided to bowl together. After they warmed up, they decided to throw alternating balls, which led to 17 straight strikes, from Rick (9) the senior championship level bowler, and from Randy (8) who had not bowled in 22 years. Great memories were had, as Astros players heard about the bowling brothers, but none could beat Rick, try as they might. Rick’s calling card was a big round house, left handed curve which often exploded the pins on contact.
Rick sang in the Christmas Pageant at Chapelwood United Methodist Church for a number of years.
A funeral will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 13001 Katy Freeway 77079, near Interstate 10 and Eldridge Parkway. A graveside service will immediately follow.
