Richard Yanez Garcia, affectionately known to his children as "Tat" passed away on Agust 25, 2022, Houston, texas. Richard was born September 25, 1928, to Jose and Emilia Garcia in Houston, Texas and passed away just weeks before his 94th birthday.
Richard grew up in Houston and at the age of 17 years old he enlisted in the United States Air Force from September 18, 1946 to September 17, 1949 and immediately following boot camp was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Richard was a Staff Sargent responsible for performing inspections and maintenance of aircrafts. He examined portions of aircrafts such as the wings, stabilizers, flight control surfaces, propellers, and landing gear. Richard received the WWII Victory Medal, along with an Army of Occupation Medal recognizing his occupation service in Japan.
Richard returned home and married Angelita Camero and eventually had four children, Richard Jr., Brenda, Robert and Irma. Shortly thereafter he joined the Houston Police Department where he served for many years as a patrolman and ultimately worked as undercover.
After working with the Houston Police Department he went to work with the Jewish Community Center in Houston, Texas.
Eventually, Richard moved to Chapala, Mexico with his companion, IIza Lazdins, where he lived until her passing and returned to the states. He loved striking up a conversation with anyone and was well-informed on current topics. He was an avid reader, intelligent, a problem solver, loved the arts, and oh how he loved his crossword puzzles.
Richard is preceded in death by Angelita Garcia, Father Jose Garcia, Mother Emilia Garcia, brothers Roberto Garcia, Alexander Garcia, Arturo Garcia, Alexander Garcia (Alex), and sisters Socoro Garcia, Francisca Gonzales, Mary Gonzales, Socoro Garcia (Corrie) and Jessie Hernandez and companion IIza Lazdins.
Richard is survived by his children Richard Jr. of Humble, Texas and his wife Elsa, Brenda Jo Martinez of Houston, Texas and her husband Luis Alberto, Robert Garcia and Irma Garcia of Houston, Texas and her husband Jorge, brothers Leon Garcia, Henry Garcia and sisters Adela Rojas and Elia Medrano. Grandchildren Rick Garcia of Porter, Texas and his wife Valerie, Sarah Garcia of Kingwood, Texas and Luke Garcia of Humble, Texas and his wife Ashley and Celia Suarez of Houston, Texas and her husband Edgar and Ismael Montes of Houston, Texas, Richard Gonzalez of Houston, Texas, Geronimo Gonzalez of Houston, Texas, German Gonzalez of Houston, Texas of Houston, Texas and wife Julieth and Crystal Gonzalez of Houston, Texas. Great grandchildren, Christian Garcia, Lennox Garcia, Josiah Villareal, Liliana Garnelo, Emma Garcia, Juliette Garcia, Alexander Gonzalez, Alexis Ramirez, Aylin Gonzalez, Jasmine Diaz, Jonathan Diaz, David Ruano, Chelsey Velazquez and Edgar Suarez Jr., great-great grandchildren Araya Castillo and loved ones, Gloria Macias of Houston, Texas and her husband Raul, Veronica Macias, Adan Raul Macias, Erica Macias, Austin Macias, Arianna Macias, Adrian Macias, Audrey Macias and Jose Adan Najera.
A visitation for Richard will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo Navigation, 2516 Navigation Blvd., Houston, TX 77003. A rosary service will occur Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM, 2516 Navigation Blvd., Houston, TX 77003. A visitation will occur Friday, September 9, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM, 2516 Navigation Blvd, Houston, TX 77003. A chapel service will occur Friday, September 9, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM, 2516 Navigation Blvd., Houston, TX 77003. A committal service will occur Friday, September 9, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
Serving as pallbearers are Rick Garcia, German Gonzalez, Luke Garcia, David Ruano, Christian Garcia and Josiah Villareal.
