Randy was born on September 2, 1952 in Taylorsville, Mississippi. He moved to Texas when he was in junior high school. After he graduated from MacArthur High School in 1970 he was drafted into the United States Air Force for the next four years where he served in Vietnam.
He met his wife, Gwen (Wootan) Loper, in high school and married her on November 5, 1971 in Houston, Texas. They went on to have two children, Lesley (Loper) Briggs and Brian Loper.
After honorably discharging from the military, Randy was employed with Sun Builder for 39 years and retired as an estimator/project manager in 2018. His favorite hobby was working as a deputy for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department Reserves. He served for 30 years and retired from the department as an Assistant Chief. He gathered monthly with his four closest friends to share a meal and have a game night to play Mexican train.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Helen Rhodes and one sister, Sheila Gay.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Loper, daughter Lesley Briggs and her husband Phillip, son Brian Loper, grandchildren Hannah Briggs, Selah Briggs, Nathan Briggs, and Hadassah Briggs, brothers, Miles Loper and Jan Loper, one sister Marcy Hall, aunt Hazel Blakeney, uncle Haskel Yelverton, and other numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will begin on Saturday, July 27, 2024 beginning at 9am with a graveside service to follow at 11am in Brookside Memorial Park
