Philip David Hobson

Philip David Hobson was born Friday, September 20, 1985 in Houston, Texas to David and Elizabeth Hobson. He was welcomed by his sisters, Natalie and Candace, ages five and four. When Philip was four years old, the family moved to Richmond, TX where he spent his childhood.

As a young child, Philip was active in Cub Scouts, karate and youth sports. He enjoyed camping, skiing, and family vacations. Philip had a love for animals from a young age and had many pets, including hamsters, kittens, dogs, and even a snake. As he got older, his interests expanded to include playing basketball, reading, creative writing, rapping, listing to and creating music. While his interest in music began in high school, it was a lifelong passion. He spent many weekends writing and composing music with his friends. He excelled in music composition, rapping, mixing and even recorded a short film.

Philip was a kind and gentle spirit, until the family played Monopoly, when he became a strategic, competitive player and champion. Philip was an avid reader from childhood; he often out-read his older sisters, completing their high school summer reading lists before they did.

He bonded with his dad playing basketball, and also doing home projects, such as painting, landscaping, cabinetry, building and repairing items around the house, and working on his car.

Philip shared many special memories with his mother, connecting through a common appreciation of music, film, and writing. Some of her favorite memories are the poems he wrote for her.

In 2003, Philip graduated from B.F. Terry High School. After high school, he worked while attending a local college, before matriculating to Stephen F. Austin State University. It is here that became a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and made some of his closest friends. While at SFA, Philip majored in political science, and as a member of TKE, served his community by feeding the homeless, participating in fundraisers, and frequent highway clean-ups. He even became scuba-certified. Philip shared a special bond with his TKE brothers. His friends describe him as creative, intelligent, funny, relatable and well-liked by all.

Following his graduation from college, Philip moved to downtown Houston where he established himself in a career of medical device sales and marketing. He maintained close relationships with his TKE brothers. He took the time to visit friends and family who were spread across the country. All remember Philip as kind, considerate, polite, intelligent, perceptive, quick-witted, good-humored, and compassionate.

On December 21st, 2017, Philip transitioned from his earthly home to be with God. He leaves to mourn, his parents – David and Elizabeth, sisters – Natalie Hobson-Guadalupe and Candace Hobson, great-grandmother, Edna “Nannie” Harris, grandparents – Helen and Grady Dale, Corinth and Betty Hobson, step-mother, Margaret Hobson and brother- in-law Eric Guadalupe. He also leaves behind many uncles, aunts and cousins – Sterling Johnson and his daughter Maya; Michael and Kay Johnson and their children Elijah, Christina, Emmanuel, Keturah, Talisi and Jennifer, Barbara and Robert Carter and their sons Andre and Alan, Lawrence and Linda Poree and their son, Julian.
