Pearlie Mae Deckard

Pearlie Mae was born on September 10th, 1939 to the late Lonzo and Lydia Boyd of Plain Dealing, Louisiana. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. She loved God with all her heart and served him all her life.

Sometime after relocating to Houston, Tx, Pearlie met her soulmate, Author J, Deckard (Sonny). On April 23rd 1963, Author and Pearlie united in Holy Matrimony and to this union 2 children were born but they were the loving parents to 3 beautiful children.

Sis. Deckard later became a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist church serving over 40 years of faithful dedication until her health declined her. Under the leadership of Pastor Robertson, she was the president of the Mission Society and the secretary of Sunday School.

After working as Unit Secretary at Parkway Hospital , She retired after 20+ years in the early 2000’s.

August 31st, 2022, the Lord made it possible for Sonny to come home (on his birthday) and guide his bride, Pearl, to Eternal life together.

She leaves to mourn three children: Elaine, Karen, Kelly (Shelia). three grandchildren: Adana, Ramona (Joseph Jr), and Ja’Cynthia. Six Great-Grandchildren: Joseph III, Lucian, Anjalena, Destiny, Bralen and Adan. Two brothers: Rev. Charles (Pearlene) and Walter (Blue) Boyd; Plain Dealing, Louisiana. one sister: Lorraine Alfred; Prairie View, TX. Two sister-in-Laws: Mattie Holmes and Bettie Deckard. One Brother-in-Law: John Henry (Dorthy); Savannah, GA. Two special nephews D.K. Bailey Sr and Christopher Montgomery. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and her Pleasant Hill family.
