Patricia Thomas Tinsley

August 3, 1917 – December 7, 2015

Patricia Thomas Tinsley born August 3, 1917 to Everett May Thomas and Flara Zell Ritchey Thomas in Baca County, Colorado in a dugout, dug by her father. She rode in a covered wagon from Colorado to Missouri. She died at the age of 98 years, 4 months and 4 days on December 7, 2015 at her home in Magnolia, Texas (on her father’s birthday). She was predeceased by 6 brothers, HP, Virgil, Houston, Delmer, Clete and Glen Thomas, and, 3 sisters, Corean, Jewel and Bobbie Helen Thomas and nephew Terry Thomas. Also, predeceased by husbands Jack Hatfield and CB Tinsley.

She is survived by daughters, Beverly Hatfield and Joyce Fulton and husband John. Grandchildren, Kimberly Canal and husband Ken, Sheli Smart, Robert Priest and Charles Priest. Great grandchildren Dustin Smart and wife Summer, Morgen Smart Nickel and husband Trevor, Brittany Anderson and husband Matt, Patricia Cloud and husband Jeffrey, Brian Priest and Cameron Priest. Great-great grandchildren Wyatt Anderson, Taylor Cloud, JJ Cloud, Brooke Priest and Aiden Lerma. Also, survived by favorite nephew Steve Thomas of Little Rock, Arkansas, Elsie Thomas Otis of California and Dru Sutcliffe of Kansas City. Close friends, Barbara Papke, Joe and Ann Witherspoon, Wallace Rutland and Michael Breaux. Her pets, Pookie, Butterbean, Chaka and Charlie the cats that she loved.

During WWII she made a home for her parents, youngest brother Glen, daughters Beverly and Joyce, by working at a shoe factory for $.40 per hour. She made holidays special for all of her brothers, parents and children. She brought her parents, youngest brother Glen and daughters Beverly and Joyce out of poverty and gave all of her family a wonderful home base for holidays and special occasions. She was a true example of what the Greatest Generation was all about.

She was a strong Democrat her entire life. She never missed voting and loved her country.

She was an avid reader, crocheted beautiful rag rugs, gardening and loved to dance.

We would like to thank Kim Canal and Sheli Smart for their love, care and kindness in her last days and Robert Priest for his love and comfort when she needed it most.

To have known her at all was simply a delight. To have loved her well was a treasure. Her death is an unmeasurable loss for her family and friends.

God speed, Mother. You will be so missed.

At her request, there will be no service. There will be a memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her honor can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Houston SPCA, two of her favorite charities.
