The world lost an avid animal lover on May 13, 2020, with the passing of Patricia (Trisha) Evelyn Kline Schilling Royal. She was the third daughter of Jarrett Ray and Verla Patricia Guidry Kline and was born in Brownwood, Texas, on November 27, 1946, a native Texan and proud of it. She spent many of her idyllic younger years in Carlsbad, New Mexico, before moving to Midland and eventually Houston, Texas, where she stayed for the remainder of her life.
Trisha was always the life of the party. It was always a happy time when Trisha showed up. She loved to go out to lunch or dinner and visit with friends and family. She loved her time at dog shows and visiting with children at schools where she talked to them about the joy of owning a dog or cat and the responsibility that goes with it. Her precious companions Annie, Flower and JoJo accompanied her to every event they were allowed attend. She lost the “dog love-of-her-life,” Dixie, a few years ago and it took a long time for her to get over the loss. Dixie was the Spokes Dog for CAP and won the hearts of all Houstonians who met her. She was always a hit in the Kissing Booth at fundraisers.
Trisha attended Texas Tech University, Sam Houston State University and San Jacinto Junior College. In 1967 Trisha met and married George Don Schilling, and they were able to enjoy a short honeymoon period before he left to serve his country in Vietnam. George was killed in Vietnam in 1968. Trisha later married Gary Lee Royal in 1969. After that marriage failed, Trisha moved back to Houston permanently.
In 1972 she began her career at The Offshore Company as an Executive Secretary and then was promoted to Administrative Services Supervisor. She was promoted again to Telecommunications Manager when The Offshore Company became Sonat Inc. She left Sonat Inc. in 1988 and began to transform her love of animals into a career with CAP.
Her volunteer career with Citizens for Animal Protection began in late 1975 when she began fostering dogs and cats, but her position with CAP went from part time to full time due to her friendship with Kappy Muenzer. In 1990 she was hired as a full time employee and CAP began to grow by leaps and bounds which resulted in Trisha focusing on Community Outreach and Humane Education.
Trisha is survived by three sisters, Jarrette Kline, Carole Ballew and Valerie Creech. She was also survived by Carole’s sons and her nephews Mark Ballew and wife, Edi, and nephew Craig Ballew and his wife Jennifer and sons Ashton and Connor. She was also survived by her brother-in-law Robert Creech, nieces Carrie Rose Creech, Carla Mills and her husband Steve and children Olivia, Paige and Ava, Lori Creech, Abby Rogers and her husband Michael and children Owen and Harper, Holly Brodner and her husband Bobby and children Sophie and Jude and nephew John, wife Jacee and their son Lachlan. There are also countless relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
Since Trisha was a lifetime animal lover, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, you donate in her honor to Citizens for Animal Protection, 17555 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX. 77094.
Due to the Covid-19 we will delay the service for Trisha until 2:00 p.m., August 1, 2020, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. Immediately after the service there will be a small dedication to Trisha and all her loving pets at the Citizens for Animal Protection Shelter, 17555 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77094. The hope is that by delaying the service until August, it will allow family and friends to more safely gather and celebrate her life.
