Orlan was born in Hartley, Texas on June 14, 1931 to Alva Orlo and Juanita Coate McClung. After graduating from Ponca City High School in Ponca City, OK, he married his high school sweetheart, Jean Marie Clarke, on November 17th, 1951 in Oklahoma City, OK. Before retirement, he was promoted to the first ever Executive Account Manager for Conoco.
