Remembering “BabySister” Widow, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7 Ora Nell Williams, a precious jewel, was born on December 14, 1944 in Pattison, Texas to Lee Henry Palmer, Sr. and Willie Hogan Palmer. Ora Nell was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Almentra “Sister” Lewis and Ruth “Boo” Branch. Ora Nell Williams grew up in Pattison and graduated from Royal High School in Brookshire, Texas. Ora Nell accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Greater Wade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Pattison, Texas under the leadership Rev. R. W. Wilkins. She moved to Houston, Texas in 1963 and lived with her oldest sister Alma and late brother-in-love Maple. Alma and Ora Nell shared a very tight and strong sisterhood. Ora Nell united in Holy Matrimony on May 22, 1965 to Carl B. Williams, Sr. (her “Billy D” type of man). Oh how they loved each other. Two meek and mild types of people; but very noble in their characters. They enjoyed life, traveled around the world, and live life daily to the fullest. To this union, three boys: Vernon, Carl, Jr., Todd and one daughter: Tara Williams were born. All shared a special bond with their mother; their precious jewel. In 2009, after 46 years of marriage, the love of her life, Carl B. Williams, Sr. preceded her in death. Ora Nell was a fashion Queen and loved to dress. She landed a job in the field she loved… “clothing” and became employed at Sakowitz as a Cashier and Clerk. She loved to purchase and wear the fine furs, coats, diamonds, and beauty products. She later was employed at Sak’s Fifth Avenue as a Department Manager. She retired after 35 years. In 1972, Ora Nell joined Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church (where Alma served) under the leadership of Pastor Samuel J. Gilbert, Sr. In 2010, she re-dedicated her life to Christ and re-connected with Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Samuel J. Gilbert, II. She loved her pastor, Dr. Samuel J. Gilbert, II and the Mountain Church Family. She served as Secretary of the Traditional Sunday School Class and was a faithful member of the Seasoned Saints Ministry. Ora Nell enjoyed worshipping and sitting on the side of her oldest sister Alma at church every Sunday and sometimes during Bible Study. Ora Nell leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Vernon (Jennifer) Williams, Todd (Violeta) Williams, Carl Jr. (Monique) Williams and Tara Williams. Her grandchildren: Kevin, Kerry, Jarell, Christian, Vernesha, Jordon, Dazjah, and Devin. Six great grandchildren and her siblings: Alma Ray Barley (oldest sister) and her baby brother Lee Henry (Edith) Palmer, Jr.; brother-in-love Willie D. (Elizabeth) Williams and sister-in-love Vera Williams. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
