Norman H. Moore, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Norman Hall Moore, Jr., 89, of Houston, passed away June 5, 2020. He was born in Westfield, NJ, on November 21, 1930 to Norman and Elizabeth (Snoddy) Moore. Norman was raised in Lawrenceville, IL. He was a proud graduate of Rice Institute. He then attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and graduated in 1958.

He married Sue Nell Goforth that same year in Overton, TX and moved to San Francisco to start his medical internship. As a new doctor and father, he then moved the family across the pond where he achieved the rank of Captain in the US Air Force as a flight surgeon in Bentwaters, England (RAF). He completed his service in Sioux City, Iowa.

Norman moved his family to Houston in 1964 and started his medical practice at the Durham Clinic as a Family Practitioner.

He lost his first wife in1967. He married Barbara Lord Quackenbush in 1968, adding her three children to the family. That made 5 children between the ages of 4 and 9 - and they still lived happily ever after!

He was a kind and generous man, soft-spoken, patient, with an extraordinary mind, well-known for his expertise as a brilliant diagnostician. He knew how to make the best of everything with his always positive outlook, enjoying life every chance he could get. He practiced medicine for 50 years before retiring in 2008.

Norman, a longtime member of Pine Forest Country Club, their home away from home, loved golf and traveling and traveling to play golf. He and Barbara traveled the world together. Norman was awarded Life Master in bridge and was an avid supporter of Rice University and the Owl’s athletics program. He remained a loyal Astros fan, and was an inaugural season ticket holder when the Astros moved into the Astrodome.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Gregory Moore, his brother, Hayden Cary Moore, parents, Elizabeth & Norman Moore, and his first wife, Sue.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Lord Moore, his children, K. David Quackenbush, Mary Kay LaMar Quackenbush, Marget Moore Sablatura and John Sablatura of Austin, Susan Moore, Laura Moore, Steven Rychlewski, 6 grandchildren, Ashley Davey, Katie Quackenbush Ivie, Cody Moore, Madison Clement, Kendall Quackenbush, and David Sablatura, two great granddaughters, Chloe Ivie and Genevieve Davey, sisters-in-law, Francee Moore, Josephine Lord & Jean Dorris, brother-in-law, Richard Lord and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the caregivers at Sunrise of Cinco Ranch in Katy for taking great care of him during his final years.

A private family memorial gathering and interment take place at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery. It will also be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/MemorialOaks/

A private family interment is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
