Norman was born on a farm in Jewett, Missouri on March 28, 1931 to Phannon and Maude Sample East. He graduated from Fredericktown HS in 1950 and moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he met the love of his life, Rosemary. They married in 1955 and settled in Cahokia, Illinois. Norman served in the National Guard and began his career as an electrician with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was promoted to Foreman and transferred to Fort Worth, TX in 1969 and then to Houston, TX in 1971.
He retired as a General Foreman from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1987. Norman had a quick wit and loved to have fun. He liked cooking, gardening, fishing, hunting and wood-working. Norman belonged to St. Ambrose Catholic Church and SPJST Lodge #88 where he enjoyed dancing, Bingo and playing Poker.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Rosemary, and daughter, Patricia McCann, as well as his parents and siblings, Hartford East, George L. East and Ina Butcher.
He is survived by his children, Priscilla Tilton (husband Jeffery), John East (wife Janet), Elizabeth McCann (husbandThomas), and son-in-law Carl S. McCann. He was a proud grandfather to William Harbison, Sarah Harvey (husband Ryan), Justin Havemann (wife Jodi), Jeffery Tilton, Jr. (wife Mary), Brian Tilton, Catherine Marsolan (husband DJ), John Michael East, Robert East, Micheal McCann (wife Ottilie) and Jenny Russell (husband John). He also enjoyed his great grandchildren, Kamden, Conner, Megan, Maddie, Blake, Tristan H. and Tristan T.
Norman will be greatly missed by all including the many friends he holds so dear.
A visitation is planned for Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 5pm-8pm at Forest Park-Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX. A mass of Christian Burial will be take place at 10:00am, Friday, June 2, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4213 Mangum Rd, Houston, TX.
